A UFO top completed!!

It all started when I needed something to applique, or hand stitch, during our on-line church service.  I hurriedly pulled this quilt out and started the last finishing applique.  Somehow, that snowballed into getting borders cut and put on the quilt.

I am just delighted to finish this up, at last.  Hurrah!!!  This one is to be hand quilted.

I have been working on learning to knit! I was so fortunate and blessed to be gifted with books, yarn and knitting needles, so that I could learn.  I have read the books front to back, and cast on several times, and I am working on learning how.  I think I have the knit stitch down fairly well, and now I am working on the purl stitch.  And then?  I would like to make something...lol!

How many of you are knitters???

It is a good feeling when you complete a project heh Julie. I learnt to knit at a young age.Re started when our grandson was born but alas I have osteoporosis in the shoulders and find it too painful now.

My Grand-mere taught me how to knit when I was little girl--it was my first craft adventure...I am at the ankle of the 2nd sock of a pair right now...knitting is so relaxing...
Your finish is just lovely hugs, Julierose

I started out crocheting many, MANY moons ago. Tried knitting 3-4 times and have just never gotten the flick even after classes, youtubes, etc. So I give up and will just resort to crocheting when I need the 'fix'.

Great finish! Enjoy the hand quilting. I learned to knit when I was a wee girl. My Mom started me making a sweater for my doll. I usually cast on stitches for my sister as she just can't get them on ok. Have fun and start something simple.

Your quilt is beautiful. I need to put a border on mine. It was fun to sew along with you on this quilt. Hugs

Ooh, I love your quilt! Appliqué has always intimidated me, but I admire the work of others. Your knitting sample looks good. It’s great that you’re working with straight and circular needles.

Yay! On that adorable finished quilt top!

I’m a knitter, also learned as a child. And I crochet and make quilts. But I don’t do much appliqué. A good first project for knitting is a hat. There are thousands of free patterns out there on the internet. Or a dishcloth from cotton yarn. Better than a scarf, which can be long and boring. Your quilt is beautiful! Dot

Another knitter here - learned when I was 5... Someone already mentioned a hat - you could knit that on the circular needles and do it all in knit stitches (unless you want ribbing on the bottom edge). When the decrease stitches make the hat too difficult to do, switch out to double-pointed needles! And, if you can manage to knit on double-pointed needles, you can knit socks!

I can knit, but I'm not great, so I don't. LOL
Your finished quilt top looks great.

The border looks great. That angle of triangle takes some precise cutting. Nice job. It is such a lovely quilt and so much work. I'm glad your were able to finish it up and listen to church too.

Your quilt looks great. I love doing hand applique. There is something that is very relaxing about it.
I can crochet, but not knit. My sister has learned to do that. She made some dish clothes and gave me a couple. I told her they were too pretty to wash dishes with so I have things sitting on them.

Beautiful quilt finish! And kudos for learning how to knit. It is a great hobby for evening tv. Knit and purl are basics and you can knit many wonderful things with those stitches.

I am a knitter/quilter too! I love you appliqué quilts Julie. I just found your blog. Do you make them up yourself or are they from patterns?
Kind regards, Jessie

Well, this might be the only good thing about online church services. You can applique to your heart's content without offending the minister! After all, we CAN listen and sew at the same time. It is beautiful! Have fun quilting it.

The multitalented Julie! She makes purses and bags and scrub caps and masks and quilts, and now she knits! More power to you!

I am a novice crocheter. I've made a few afghans, dishcloths, bar soap scrubbies/holders, and just finished an infinity scarf for myself. Still trying to find an easy winter hat pattern. One was not a good fitting pattern, and another was WAYYYYY too bulky and a mess at 104 rows for a hat, so I quit that one and salvaged the yarn for practicing, as it's a little shabby from all the unravelling and repeated starts. I've found another pattern that seems to be coming along a little better. But considering all the difficulty I'm having with one hook, I anticipate rigorous hair-pulling if I tried to coordinate 2 knitting needles! lol

I love this quilt pattern and I love your version of it, Julie. Isn't this "Dear Son" that several quilters made a few years ago and parts of the pattern were a challenge? Yes, or no, you have made a fabulous quilt! Congrats on a wonderful finish.
