Binding Blitz!!

I have had this quilt cut out for a long while, and decided to sew some blocks up yesterday.
This is what it is supposed to look like.  I just noticed that the picture is upside down...but you get the idea.  The quilt is named "Arctic Nights", and is by Judy Dafoe Hopkins.  The pattern is in the Super Scrap Quilts book by Martingale.

It is the end of June already!!  Remember this book?  It is the prize for the Binding Blitz for June.

So please link up below if you have finished a binding (or two or three) this month!!  A random drawing will be held for this prize for each entry.  I hope each of you has a wonderful day!!

Slow Stitchin'!!

I am making the Temecula quilt company blocks (please click on the name for the link) over this summer...except I am making them eight inches finished instead of four inches.  I found a whole bunch of eight inch blocks in the quilt closet.  Maybe they can all be friends and be a quilt together!!  The backgrounds are different, but with sashing, maybe it could work.
Here are some little quilts I love on my old piano...just playing here.
 Lori, do you see yours???
Below is my mother's fruit bowl.  It often had apples in the falltime in it, or bananas occasionally.  It is heavy!!  Does anyone know anything about it???
And at long last...here is the sampler...what I am slow stitching on.  I have done a lot, lot, lot of quilting of this, and am slow stitching the binding down.  I find a more personal connection with the fabric and fibers when I hand quilt...and I love it.  Wish I could hand stitch EVERYTHING!!!

Hope you all are finding some time to slow stitch this Sunday!!  I am linking to Kathy...so you can peek at what everyone else is slow stitching on today!

Have a great day, everyone!!!

Something old, and something new

Good evening!!  It is rare that I post after work...but here I am.  I am making a table runner for Christmas. Lots of different reds.  The melons are for hand applique.  I was planning a big quilt but I think I would succumb to old Father time before I finished!!
I was recently gifted this quilt...a treasure.  It is absolutely huge!  At least 100x100.
My sister and I took it to quilt shop, and a quilt historian happened to be there.  She said it was from 1850-1880.  All the prints with black are quite shredded due the metals in the dyes, maybe?   The quilting is by hand, the finest I have ever seen.
The quilting is at least 20 stitches to the inch.  Some shredding is present...and it is finished by turning the back to the front, less the 1/8 of of inch for the binding..  Fine cotton batting is showing through.  The back is homespun muslin.  The yellow is the same throughout the quilt, and at first reminded me of 1930's, but the historian said it was pre-civil war.  Hand piecing is evident, but so finely done, it is incredible!! Every point matches exactly...pretty darn fantastic for no electric lighting!

Any thoughts??  It is an oldie!!  The oldest I have, for sure...

Have a great day, everyone!!

Oh the quilting!!

Super excitement here!  I just received my quilt back in the mail, from Tricia at Turning Twenty.  Please see her website HERE.  At last, my woolie quilt is actually quilted!
The quilting is just lovely.  Custom quilted, and I just love it!!
 Closer...
And closer!!  I am so very happy with this...at last I am making some progress on these quilt tops!!!  The binding is ready to go.  Thank you, Tricia, so very much!!
Last night, I sandwiched and pinned this quilt.  And since the edge was already fraying a little (being made from all homespuns), I bound it.  You have to be very careful in doing this binding before quilting thing, to make sure there are no puckers and etc...but I have made it work in the past.  I am working on the hand quilting on this one.  I don't think it would work for machine quilting...what are your experiences??
And three more blocks for the Temecula summer quilt along.  The other block is cut out...not sew yet, though!

***************************Health update*******************************

I am slowing down.  The tachycardia is so much better, except after I eat.  I have a continuous heart monitor, and that is so helpful!  Lots of medications later...things are different...slower!!  I feel a bit sleepy, actually, which means I am probably going hypothyroid now.  Labs in a week or so!!!  I thank everyone for your prayers and thoughts, so much.

**********************Nurse's notes******************************

I floated to another unit, a neuro unit the other day. Strokes, Tia's, that sort of thing.  It was fun!  I love to go to new places and learn how those nurses do things...and the nurse were all so great and oriented me a little and were just fun to work with.  I am still doing the patient advocate thing....but tired of hearing complaints, kind of.  I love it when I can make a positive difference, though!!  My favorite nursing? A very sick, one on one ICU patient, multi organ system failure patient...that gets well and comes back to see us later!

Have a great day!!

Temecula Quilt Company blocks

Temecula Quilt Company is having a quilt along.  I got entranced with it and here are the first four blocks.  I think there will be more blocks released every week until we have a quilt!!  The blocks are supposed to be 4 inch finished...but I made mine 8 inch finished, so I can have a bigger quilt.  I don't especially like the colors I picked so far, so I will get some prettier colors in there to liven it up!
Do you save the triangles from flip and stitch corners??  I do...and I love it when I have four alike, because I make a pinwheel.  I have 122 (so far) of these three inch pinwheels!  Not sure what to do with them...but they are fun!!

I hope this post finds you having a wonderful weekend, with someone you love, doing just what you like!!

It is becoming more about the applique??

I had the chance to have a sew day with several medical/nurse type friends.  We call ourselves the "Remnants." I worked on the hand applique of these flower blocks.  I am loving the process, the creation of something new, all from my own brain, cobbled together from memories of quilts, and memories of these fabric scraps from other quilts.  It may turn out badly...or good!!  But the process is so fun and rewarding to me.

If you can...and a lot of you do!  Try and make something all your own!!  Make something out of your little pieces or blocks leftover, just what you have on hand. Just yours...it is great fun!!  Audrey from Quilty Folk is a champion at this.  Check out her blog right HERE!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Countdown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TURNING TWENTY MYSTERY QUILT!!!
It starts on July 1st...get ready!!  Get set!  .....Go!!!  (not yet...on July 1st!)

Tricia will be posting links to the pattern...so stay tuned!!

Still playing in the scraps!!

What if I add some flowers in there??  Just playing around here...but what is the flowers have a tiny border of black to make them pop?
 Pretty flowers!!
 Silly flowers!!
So it goes...I know some of the blocks are turned, but I have to pick it all up anyway, in a few minutes.  I am just enjoying the colors and no pressure...candles are burning, music is playing softly...just relaxing with the SCRAPS!!

Have a great day, everyone!!
