Organizing, and sewing just a little bit!

Happy Friday!  It is my weekend to work, so I will be at the hospital tomorrow...so I must accomplish some things today.  I am trying to clear out every little bit of every project started.  If I start now, don't sleep, and don't eat...and no potty breaks..I will be finished by 2542 AD.  Hee!!  Not really, but I really am trying to get some stuff done!I have been going through one room a day, organizing, cleaning, and donating stuff to our charity here in town.  I found this basket of pieces and parts, and so made pinwheels from them...don't know what to do with them yet...maybe it will come to me in a dream?  or a comment, LOL??
But...I live in an older neighborhood, and we have estate sales from one house to the next...all the time.  I swear, we all swap our junk around...pretty soon I will be buying back my own garage sale stuff, LOL!!  Anyway, I found a lady who did lots of needle work.  She had dozens of really pretty pillows she had made...who could resist this pretty owl pillow?    I think it is crewel work.  Lots of needlepoint pillows there too.
And a pretty blue tea set...for seven dollars?  It came home too...
And silver.  It is silver plate, but is old and worn, and I just love it.  $5.00  I can really use the serving pieces...don't care if they don't match.
And a crystal little pitcher.

And three blouses, $1.00 each, that are in the wash now.

So, a pretty fun little shopping expedition for $20.00, and I needed none of it!!  So.. stay tuned for my big GARAGE SALE!!!!  snort!!

Have a great weekend,

Julie

I have been making pinwheels from my extra HSTs and don't know what to do with them either. Will look forward to reading the suggestions from your followers!

Well, it's pinwheels everywhere today! Rachaeldaisy has just posted the pinwheels she made in a class with Kaffe Fassett here - http://bluemountaindaisy.blogspot.ca/2014/02/my-class-with-kaffe-and-brandon.html

I'm sure you could do the design with any fabrics.

Love that owl cushion!

I'm sure you will end up with a terrific scrap quilt made from those pinwheels!
Yard sales/estate sales--they are dangerous things. We can find such bargains--and you are right that we NEED none of it!

It sounds like you had a fun time at the sale and came home with some goodies. I'm glad you bought that pillow. I hate to see someone get rid of something that took so. Uh time to stitch. I like your pinwheels just like they are with an alternate block.

You are so funny!
Glad you found some fun treats to bring home.
Will the shirts be to wear or to cut up and put into quilts?!?

funny post!! Sounds like me!! I take bags to our Opshop......& come home with bags of stuff!
The pinwheels would look cute with alternating little square patches, depending on the size of the pinwheel, like ninepatches or sixteen patches?
Love the cushion. I have a couple of those blue bowls!!

WooHoo! such pretty little treasures you have found. LOVE the owl pillow! So cute! So well done! Love it. Pinwheels are like salt. So many blocks go well with pinwheels, I am sure you will come up with something.
Thanks for sharing.

Who can resist a good garage sale? Great pinwheel blocks--they could easily be put on point with a lovely floral or print to tie them all together.:)

I've inherited several sets of silverplate, and I mix and match them all the time. Have fun with your finds, and don't go crazy at work.

How would the pinwheels look with a creative sashing? Maybe similar to the one in the quilt on your title photo?
Great finds at that garage sale. I wish we had such sales here too.

Wonderful garage sale finds. I love the silverplate pieces. I can't justify the price of real silver so with the silverplate I can have fun! And the silverplate here in Sweden can be used daily about twenty years before wearing out, or so they say:). Good enough for me!
The pinwheels will make a cute quilt, can't wait to see what you come up with!

My favorite way to shop! It is such fun seeing all the little things that are interesting but not necessary to life.

I love pinwheel quilts. I save all the triangles that are left over or trimmed and make mini quilts with them.

You picked up some really nice treasures.

Oh my I really do need to get all my projects organized too.
Oh pinwheels how sweet the possibilities are endless, have any nine patches the same size that could make a nice diagonal march through the pinwheels :0)

Happy Sewing, know you will make it special.

I had to laugh at your yard sale adventures...I always feel the same way! Particularly when we have the quilt guild sales...I'm pretty sure I've bought back books I've sold before!

Last year I made a pinwheel quilt for donation and I used pinwheels of all sizes, just added enough fabric to bring them to the size I wanted - probably 4". I really liked how it turned out. I have baggies labeled with sizes from 1" on up that I keep the leftover HSTs in for future use. Yes, the garage sales are starting. We really need to have one!

Your siverware was my mother's everyday pattern. Seeing it brought back nice memories. It is in the family still -- after she passed last year my son and his wife claimed it. My granddaughter claimed her newer "good" silverware.

I just love, love, love that tea set! But all your acquisitions are lovely.
As for the pinwheels, the simple answer is right before your eyes as you have laid them out upon your beige carpet in the photograph!!!! Get some bland beigey fabric to let the pinwheels be the star of the quilt. Border, or not. simple and classic.

I had to LOL about your neighborhood swap. I once donated some homeschooling things to the thrift store and my son bought them at a bag sale! We got a good laugh out of that when I told him I had donated them recently!!

Swapping clutter with your neighborhood sounds fun! This is a perfect example of one’s trash is another man’s treasure. Those stuff looks so precious to be regarded as clutter, so why not make money out of it or donate it for charity, right? ~Alison

Merry Christmas!!!

I hope each of you had a wonderful Christmas!!!  It was a quiet day here, one with Mexican food as the theme, instead of ham or turkey.  Of ...
