Good morning!! I participated in a nine patch block swap with Barb...please see see her blog HERE. She did such an amazing job with it all!! Each nine patch was kind of a treasure, a little work of art to me, carefully pressed and sewn by many hands. Yes, I know I am waxing a bit poetic, but that is the way I felt about it, so I wanted to somehow showcase each nine patch. So I bordered each one, setting it on point.
Then I thought and thought about how to set them together. I use almost exclusively scraps in my quilting, as many of you know. What could I do??
I then went to the 1.5 inch strip bin and got out some pretty strips of fabric, and started kind of matching the blocks to the strips. Not really matching...just whatever at that moment in time I thought looked fun together. So here is where I am!!
I laugh and laugh when I think of other quilter's gorgeous, organized and beautiful design walls...and the laughter comes when I think of myself, down on the floor with the poodle dog, moving quilt pieces and parts around and wiggling around to the music playing!!! I guess I will never be as amazingly organized or put together as most folks, but I sure have fun!!
I recently received the most beautiful patterns from Marcie Patch....please see her blog and business HERE!! Marcie has been a huge inspiration to me for many years, and I count her as a wonderful friend too. Thank you so much, Marcie!!
Last but not least for sure, I have some piece and parts from a famous quilt!! At least famous to me...it is TAZZIE's Omigosh quilt!! Please click on the link to see her amazing quilt. It is a huge award winner, and she sent me some of her little strips and nine patches that she used in her quilt, and some pretty fabric too. I am still cutting out pieces for mine...stay tuned!!!
Thank you, Tazz!!
Happy Monday to all,
Julie

My design wall is also the floor and I'd be too embarrassed to show a picture of it. It's actually just a corner of the floor, so some designs overlap others. No matter what you do in the end, your little 9 patches are going to look so sweet, just like everything you make.
Beautiful blocks and patterns! I am also slowly cutting for the Omigosh quilt too!
Have a wonderful and Blessed day!
Kristie
How sweet of Tazzie to send you blocks and scraps! Her quilt is seriously amazing!
I love the nine patches on point with the scrappy sashing.
Yeah, I have a design floor too. I also have a design bed for smaller projects. It is a little easier on the knees. LOL
But you are having so much fun with your "system"!
Great idea for setting these blocks!
love the look of your playground.............
I love what you are doing with the 9-patch blocks! That would never have come to me, but it looks great!!
Nice patterns from Marcie. She is a sweetheart, isn't she?
That is a real treasure you received from Tazzie! I know you will do something really fun with her leftovers--can't wait to see! : )
Have been using the floor for years as a design wall. I purchased some foam and batting for a "small" design wall. Hope it helps manage my mess and help with design
It's funny how many us are design floor creators. Love what you're planning with the nine patches. I've been working on mine too. They are like little treasures.
There can't possibly be anything wrong with using the floor for a design board! It seems to work so very well for the most of us.:) Love how your 9 patches are coming together!
I use my floor all the time too! I loved Tazzie's quilt also.
I love what you are doing with the 9Patches!! So very creative! How fun to have some "celebrity" pieces to include in your Omigosh quilt!! Neat new patterns too.
My design wall is the floor too Julie. I am blessed to have rather a large workroom, and the floor is often littered with the blocks I am making/planning. I just step around it gingerly each time I have to walk past. Tibby doesn't give a hoot, just walks straight through it all. Occasionally she decides to roll around and fight the blocks and bits of fabric and blocks go flying in all directions. LOL
what a great idea for the nine patches! You've come up with a great setting to work with the pairs!
Good start on the nine patches being set. This may be my favorite thing you have made.
I really like that layout idea for 4-patches. May have to try it once my sewing room is back together. Thanks for sharing.
I don't have a design wall either...:)
I am familiar with Tazzie's quilt..it is amazing. I think it's really nice what you are doing with the nine-patches / I'd read about that swap.
Off to visit your friend! :)
I really love how you are setting your nine patches.
I do have a design wall but still use the floor. Sometimes there are just too many projects going at once.
You always do wonderful designing, Julie, and these 9-patches are no exception. Just keep it up!
I inherited a new design board when my son left for college this fall--his bed! HA! Barb's 9-patch swap blocks are spread all over it and I keep trying different things. I'll have to clean them off soon for Thanksgiving break, I suppose he'll want to sleep there. :)
P.S. Love knowing that I have a little of your piecing here!
Love how you're setting those little nine patches. Enjoy :)
Your blocks are so adorable! I'm sure it will be another great quilt when you are done.
I was in the swap with Barb too. I only used 4fabrics so I can pick out my blocks. I probably won't start it till after the holidays. I can't wait to see yours! Patti, RN too
You never disappoint whenever I come for a visit and I ALWAYS leave inspired!!
You are the most prolific little nurse I have ever seen!
LOL, I have a good visual of you and your design "rug"!!
All I can say is YOU GO GIRL!!
And I'm MOST IMPRESSED you are going to tackle the OMIGOSH quilt. I have pined over that one too!
Oh….I forgot to tell you, I think you got a set of my 9 patches…..middle photo….middle of the photo and a little to the left next to that blue and white. Its dark purple and gold design. Neat!
Maybe I got a set of yours too!!!!
