Sunday afternoon closet clean out

Happy Sunday!   I used to be a much different quilter.  I found this segment of a quilt that I was working on in the murky, distant past.  I think my premise was to make a segment of quilt, and hand quilt it, and then put it altogether.  How I would put it together, I have no clue.  I know I drew around little cardboard templates that I made myself out of cereal boxes, cut the shapes out of fabric, pieced the quilt blocks, and hand quilted it.  I CAN say that my stitches were very small and even, LOL!  But where was I going with all this?  I am tossing this into the bin...sorry...no finishing this one, for I no longer have the fabric!

My knitting attempts were in evidence too!  Oh dear...there are holes in the knitting, and somehow the piece got wider as I went.  Into the bin!  I wish someone would teach me to knit, as I would love to REALLY know how!

How are you doing today?

I too want to learn to knit someday. There is an adult community education class I keep my eyes out for that I have heard has a good instructor. I would love to make socks and mittens. Kathy

Oh, Julie, that piece of pink and green quilt! It's beautiful. You could cut around the blocks and bind it into a small quilt to use on a table or hang or give to a baby. It's too good to throw away!

I know how you feel with the cleanout. I run across stuff and say what the HECK were you thinking/doing?!!! I can crochet but never could get the hang of knitting (even though I like the way knitting looks so much better..ugh). Oh well...

I come across baggies of extra pieces with no obvious idea what I planned to do with the darn things!
I learned to knit and crochet when I was pregnant with my son. I knit one sweater I gave my Mom, and one Afghan I may still have buried somewhere! There are lots of online tutorials but having someone in person is always better.

Julie- Don't throw your quilt away! You can surely figure out how to save it and at least make something small with it. It is so lovely! I am doing a quilt as you go on the machine but I am needing to do my next one as a hand quilted quilt as you go since it is a Lori Holt applique quilt which I have hand blanket stitched around all the shapes. So I need encouragement to actually start and finish it! :-) Have a great week. K- lkw2x6-apq@yahoo.com

Julie please don’t bin the quilt it could be repurposed

Oh no. Don’t bin it. It would make a beautiful small quilt for a donation. Send it my way. I’ll do something with it.

I believe that it's perfectly okay to record our journeys this way, by looking back at where we began, take a photo of it, and move on. Life's too short to spend hours on those things that no longer pique our interest or make us happy. I started the same way with lap quilting and joining pre-quilted blocks (all those seams on the back!), sigh.

Don’t feel guilty about tossing the projects. If it was meant to be it would have been finished long ago.as for knitting, your cloth looks pretty good. It’s very common for the sides to be uneven on beginners’ projects. Find a yarn shop that offers help to beginners - you’ve got the knit stitch mastered, so your halfway there.

Oh, I do love a good clean out!! When I find things like this they go into the bin for my local quilt group auction. We only do it once a year (I am the lucky auctioneer) but we make over $1,000! It always amazes me what my friends will buy!! I have found some great tops to finish for community quilts and it has been a real time saver. Hope you find a home for your unwanted treasures!

It must feel good to be cleaning out. And it is surprising what we find when we do. :)

I had to laugh at you getting rid of these old "good" intentions that you once had. I can't say I blame you because I've done the very same thing a few times. It's kind of an uplifting feeling of finally being free from these things that burden us, isn't it? At least that's the way I look at it. I'm wishing someone would teach me to crochet because I think I could make cute little bunny animals and give them to children. I guess I could go take a class somewhere to actually learn to crochet. That's an idea!! Good luck finding someone to teach you to knit!!

I feel your pain on the quilt! LOL. And the knitting. I have done 2 pairs of socks (a few years back) and scarfs and and a hat. I find that doing the wash cloths with a pattern that is easy gives you a lot of practice. I have never finished a sweater. I started one but boy what a mess I made! It is all in reading the instructions, or watching a You Tube. I took some lessons and they helped but that was also a long time ago!

BUT hang in there, practicing will allow you to see your mistakes, if I drop a stitch, I have problems getting that resolved, but it can be done.

Take care, Hugs

That's the problem with starting something and then putting it down unfinished. I can never remember WHAT was I thinking!!
I'd love to show you how to knit. I do know how to do that.
I'm sure there's a YouTube show that'd show you how to do it??

We all need to clean and clear out those things that helped us on our journey, but are no longer needed.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
