Bear Paw!!

Did you happen to see this bear paw variation, in the September/October edition of Quiltmania??  I just love it!!
So....I made a block!  This is the block at the top left of the quilt as shown, and as close I can get to the same fabrics, using what I have.   It was great fun, and went together like a dream.
Does anyone really, really, really love Sunbonnet Sue?  I found this UFO at the very bottom of a basket, while cleaning.  It is pretty old!
The pieces are all prepared, just needs to be finished.  Do you have a Sunbonnet Sue in your quilt closet somewhere??

I love it!!  But this time of year can be a really hard time for some families and individuals.  It is difficult whenever families are spread apart by geography or disagreement.  Praying for a great Christmas for each and every one of you!!

I like the double sashing on your SS quilt. I re-invented my sister's childhood Sunbonnet Sue quilt - it was one of my earliest "rescue" projects. http://contemplatethenwait.blogspot.com/search?q=Sunbonnet+Sue

I don't have access to the Quiltmania magazine and am curious about their block. What's different about their bear paw block?
Yours came out great!
And the Sunbonnet Sue quilt is ADORABLE!

I really want a Sunbonnet Sue quilt, I just have not had the courage to start one yet. It is on my bucket list though! I like the pink on yours!

Oooo--I LOVE that Bear Paw quilt! Your replica block looks great.
That is a very sweet Sunbonnet Sue. I have never made one because they involve that "A" word, that I don't do. But they are awfully cute!

I did give that Bear Paw quilt a long look. One of my favorite classic blocks!

I like Sun Bonnet Sue. I've made 2 Sun Bonnet Sue crib quilts for each of my dil's but neither one has had a girl since I've made them. When the one found out the last baby was a boy, that was the first thing she said to me, I don't get my quilt! The Sue I used was quite a bit small, the applique blocks are 5" and I used a variety of bright colors in mine.

Love the Bear Paw quilt - such great colors! Never been a big fan of Sunbonnet Sue, but I don't care much for dolls either, maybe that's why? Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

I got some pre-prepped Sunbonnet Sue pieces a few months ago. I just need to find the time to play with them.

I love Bear Paw block. The one in Quiltmania is awesome. Your rendition of the first block is soooo close I thought it was the same block. Love the fabric you used. I don't have a Sunbonnet Sue nor a Suspender Sam. It's not calling my name. Love the sashing in yours and Sue is very charming. Time to finish her up I think. Enjoy! We are all together this year again and, so far, all are healthy. Thanks for the good wishes and I pray for you the same. ;^)

My Mom made Sunbonnet Sue blocks in the 40s and 50s but never put them into a quilt. After her death, my two sisters and I each made a full-sized quilt with the blocks: we treasure the memories the quilts represent.

Love the Bear Paw block. Is there another quilt in your future?

Love that Bear paw block! Yours is wonderful!!
I'm not a huge fan of Sunbonnet Sue.
Take care during the holidays! It can be such a hard time for people.

Your bear paw is beautiful, as is the Sunbonnet Sue. I've done a couple for granddaughters and it is the perfect pattern for a little girl.

I love your bear paw block! And I was never a fan of SBS quilts....until I finished my mother in law's quilt for her. She had blocks from her MIL of both SBS and Overall Sam, and had always wanted to complete the quilt, but she never got to them. So for her 80th birthday, I put them all in a quilt using 30's prints for the sashings, and I can't tell you how much she loved on that quilt....until she passed 3 years later. Some of the block appliques had never been finished, but that was ok....we had a 'shoeless Sam' and one that we called 'Leftie'! HA!

Sunbonnet Sue quilts always remind me of my mom. She loved that pattern as well as Depression fabrics and appliqué, both of which come together in a Sunbonnet Sue quilt. She was not alive to make a quilt for her first great grandaughter born last May, but the quilt I made (not a Sunbonnet Sue, as I am not an appliquer) did use her beloved collection of 30s fabrics. I hope you finish yours.

Great Bear paw block, have fun making the rest. That Sunbonnet Sue is very nearly a top, so very nearly a good give away quilt...you can do it! Well that is if some nice reader doesnt offer to take it off your hands!

Love the bear paw variation, this will sew up nicely. As for a SBS, don't have one, have never made one and not going to make one. I say, finish it up, quilt it up, and gift it out or donate to a children hospital. A little girl will love it! Yes, here's to a blessed Christmas season to one and all, it's been a very long year.

I like the cheddar that is used in the Quiltmania quilt. I can see why you are drawn to the design, colors, and fabrics that was used.

After my mom passed away when I was 4, I lived with my grandma until my dad remarried and the bed I slept in had a Sunbonnet Sue quilt on it. I have such fond memories of it and was a bit sad when my grandmother passed away and my sister got that quilt. Can't really blame anyone one as my new mom didn't know my attachment to it and I married into the military and wasn't around for the clearing out when my grandmother moved into a care facility. Still, every time I see a Sunbonnet Sue I think of my grandmother :)

Greetings!

Hi everyone!! I have been busy working....and piecing...and raking leaves. Above are my plaids star blocks...a UFO.  Yes, a genuine UFO!! I ...
