Progress, and audiology testing

Good morning, everyone!!  Or good afternoon....I guess it is afternoon, here.  I made this quilt of valor two rows wider and longer. than the original picture showed, and I just have four more seams to go and will call it good!!  I am glad to reach this goal, this year.  I think the original quilt used bigger pieces of fabric; my pieces are three inch finished.

I was waiting for a border fabric to go on this little applique quilt.  A lady wanted me to have a bag of scraps, and this fabric was in the bag.  So there!  I am glad it was the perfect thing, to me.  There was not enough of it, so I needed to add the corner stones.  I will hand quilt this one, so into the closet it goes to age properly.  Haha!

Lori of Humble Quilts has carpal tunnel.  Me too!  I think a lot of us do...so anti-inflammatories, splints, rest, and ice are the go to thing.  I went to a hand surgeon who was silly in every way, talking about himself, and never even examined my hands...so I will find another surgeon!!!  Hope this problem does not come to surgery.

I went to the audiologist for a baseline screening...my hearing is 100%.  Yahoo!

Hope you are doing great today!

Sweet little and big projects! I always say I won’t get Carpal tunnel syndrome because I got my dad’s big bones and not my mom’s tiny wrists!

Ooo, I LOVE your QOV! Where did you find that pattern? I MUST make one..LOL! I'm currently finishing the binding of #3 that I made for the Nov. presentation. Be thankful for your good hearing--hearing aids just don't quite cut it. Ask me how I know. ugh

The QOV is simply gorgeous! Well done. Congratulations on the audiology test results, too. I went to an orthopedist who didn’t examine me or even order X-rays. I didn’t go back and found a different doctor.

Julie that is the prettiest Quilts of Valor quilt I have seen. You have done a wonderful job on the pattern and color.

Carpal Tunnel. Get another doctor, but cheapest thing is to get braces and wear them at night to rest the CT. Amazon has the best braces. Put the surgery off as long as you can because it will return - especially if you are diabetic, pre diabetic, or if it is in your genes. I would have not had the 2nd set of surgeries if I had know I was diabetic. I lost the weight and now Pre-diabetic!

These are the braces I use now - they gave them to me after surgery and if my CT acts up I use them at night and during the day - they are washable.

Hugs Hely Weber-63656 Kuhl Modabber Wrist Brace, Short, Right - Black. Sold on Amazon. Watch the size to make sure you get the right ones. Hugs again

I had carpal tunnel surgery in 1997. I fought it for six months using splints, exercise and then had surgery. I found an amazing hand specialist. The surgery lasted 20 minutes and the pain was gone. Recovery was around two weeks. It was the right thing to do.

Julie, the QOV is stunning--the most beautiful I have seen. Some veteran will be so thrilled to receive it.

I firmly disagree with Chopin. Do NOT put it off "for as long as possible". Why? If you compress the nerve for years on end, the nerve will NOT recover.

I was on the verge of doing it and consulted my favorite hand surgeon (I'm an Orthopedic OR RN). We had decided the time was approaching. Meanwhile he suggested I be sure my sleep habits weren't to curl up my elbows/hands. I started going to sleep on my stomach with my arms down to my sides. It relaxes the nerve at both the elbow and the wrist. If you're a side sleeper, get another pillow and hug it loosely. Top arm over the pillow with elbow bent less than 90 degrees and wrist loose. Bottom arm similar.

Also consider a massage therapist who understands that anatomy. Mine does and I had her work on them as well.

Guess what? I've relieved the nerve compression and no longer am considering CT releases.

Your QOV is spectacular. It's one of the best one I've seen in awhile. Sorry about the hand issue. Surgeons can be an arrogant bunch. Glad your looking for another.

Neat QOV pattern - I don't think I've seen that one! Love the little applique - it's a happy-making quilt, for sure!

It’s still dark here, but I’ve had my coffee, and you’ve motivated me to get to work! I just love your QOV! I’ve been pulling out some aging projects lately. Yesterday, I decided one hadn’t aged enough, and tucked it back into the closet.

Wow, that QOV quilt is really fabulous! Someone will be really thrilled to receive it one day.

Your QOV is so lovely and sure to bring some joy to a veteran. I love how you work on different projects and then let them age a bit :-) I remember the applique with the kitty on it.
Congrats on your hearing test! I'd say you also get 100% in listening skills as well!
Scary review of your surgical visit! Good to know you need somebody else before he worked on you!

Two lovely quilt tops! The perfect amount of aging time is required before finishing :)
Hope the carpal tunnel gets better on it's own!

I love the QOV! I hate going to medical specialists. They are just too focused and seem to have trouble getting out of their own heads. I've had the worst experiences with orthopedics. I hope you find a good surgeon soon!

Excellent QOV! Really like that design.
Nice finish on the little applique cutie. Of course, aging in the closet is often required to get the quilt to the right stage for quilting (or to give your hands a rest so you CAN quilt it).
Most specialists I've seen have been very good, but I had a really bad experience with one earlier this year. It gave me such stress that I ended up with shingles. I hope you can find a good one for your needs!
Lucky you on the hearing! Congrats on your perfect baseline. I have some low range hearing loss. :(

Glad your hearing is good! Sorry you are dealing with CP and a stupid doctor!
Love your quilt of valor!

I had CT and had the operation. 1 yr on right the next yr the left. Never had any problems and it has been 18 years. Just a heads up.......... the dog not listening to you, not a good thing to smash the heel of your hand on the deck railing to get her attention 23 hours after the operation. That one hurt just a tiny HaHa bit.

Dear Julie,
you did so well on the flag and applique quilt top. Wonderful work.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
