An antique...no, not me!

HI Y'all!! Hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving had a wonderful one. I have been cooking and cleaning, no quilting so far, but a lot of scheming and thinking about quilts! Above is an antique quilt top I bought at the Dallas Quilt show. It was in a pile of tops, being shoved around...I had to rescue it. The tag said from 1860's. Please tell me...what do you think? Do you really think it could possibly be that old?
Double pinks, just like our current day reproductions.
A maverick block!!
and another maverick
Most of the blocks are pink, like this one. Does anyone know the name of this block?
Maverick!
All hand pieced...someone took lots of time with this! Wonderful if she had electric lights...hmmm, how fortunate we are!

Hope you enjoyed seeing my little old quilt top, and if you can tell me any information, I would so appreciate you!! Or if you like it..shout out!!

Have a super day,

Julie

It's very pretty but I know nothing of antique quilt tops. I'll be interested to know what you find out. I'd hope a quilt show would be truthful when telling you the age of the quilt. Hey....my blog post TOMORROW has 3 reds I'm considering for your bear paw block....so try to look and let me know if you have a preference.

How very cool! I don't know anything about dating quilts either, but what a fun one you found! Thanks for sharing.

It's a wonderful quilt...so full of character and interest.
I doubt that it could be so old and in such good condition!?! Are you going to quilt it?!?!

Take it to an appraiser to find out for sure or you could check a public library for this book, http://tinyurl.com/y9n3vdc

What a neat old quilt you found--have no idea about the age or name of block, but I like the quilt!!!

Hey there! I've got no info on your top and would think that the quilt show would know for sure...but then they say a quilt is only as old as the last bit of fabric sewn in it. Is it worn?

Gosh, this is TOTALLY lovely. What a find. I'm sooooo happy for you to get ahold of this - antique or not, Julie. It's a real beauty with tons of character - either way.

What a great find, Julie! I can't really help with the dating either, but I think it's a wonderful quilt.

That is a very unusual block and I have never seen it before. I can see that it is old. What a great quilt! Lucky you!

Julie: That is a great quilt! Probably from 1880-1900, is my guess. I don't know the pattern name, but would you mind if I replicated the pattern? With all the half-square triangles in it, it would be a great one to use up the bonus triangles I've generated from Bonnie's Carolina Christmas. Louise

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
