Borders on the purple quilt

And that is it, folks!  Just a simple border. I do not have any batik yardage big enough for an outside border, so there you have it! A finished top!
I am glad to have to together!
There was one extra block, so I made a potholder from it.  Quilted it to death, with two layers of batting inside.
And wow...did I ever make a mess!  That is my favorite mixing bowl, full of potato salad, or it was...now it is shards in the garbage!  What a mess...I tried to get the milk out of the fridge, and dumped out that bowl, too!  Geesh!!!  But the bright side is...I get to shop for a new mixing bowl!  That one had a wee chip anyway...

Have a great day!

What a great little quilt! And such a great idea to make a potholder out of an extra block.
Sorry about your bowl... ;-((

I would have hated to lose the potato salad - so much trouble to make! My husband loves it but I'm usually too lazy to make it.

Your quilt is lovely. One thing to consider is making a piano key border. It's not only pretty, but it uses up leftover pieces of fabric and can make a quilt just that little bit bigger. If you use longer piano keys on the top and bottom than on the sides, it can make a quilt more rectangular, too.

Great quilt, simple but awesome! Sorry about the bowl. My favorite mixing bowl is my 8 cup Pyrex measuring cup/bowl. Has a handle and is big enough to hold anything I want to stir up! Hope you find a new bowl you love as much as the old one!

The purple border is a great accent for this quilt. It really finishes it off nicely. I'm so sorry about your bowl (and the potato salad). I had a square white pyrex baking pan that I broke years ago. . . I still mentally yearn for it when I want to make cornbread.

Your quilt is so very pretty, just as it is! Sorry about your potato salad and your favorite bowl! Christmas a couple of years ago, I made a beautiful chocolate pie in my favorite 10" pie dish. I took it to my son's in a plastic pie carrier with a handle oh the lid. My son got it out of my car, carried it almost to the front door of his house, and the carrier came apart, splattering my chocolate pie and pie dish all over his front sidewalk! I almost cried; he didn't curse, but I think my grandson might have, especially since he had to get the water hose and clean up the sidewalk so we could all get back to our cars after our Christmas party. I guess worse things could have happened, but I've never found another dish like that one! ---"Love"

Great finish for the purple rail fence! Breaking a favorite item is tough, and the cleanup makes it even harder to accept.

I, too, make potholders or hot mats to protect my counters, with left over blocks or pieces and strips. I have found that left over flannel (from backings) placed between two layers of cotton batting is a great insulator, and a good way to use up smaller pieces, which I zig zag together if needed. I have even used the flannel behind the batting to add another layer of protection on table runners, too.
Thanks for your great blog! Lots of ideas and positive-ness. Jill in Calgary/Phoenix,

Let me see... what can I throw on the floor to justify buying a new one??! LOL

Sorry about the bowl and the potato salad.

The quilt top is a wonderful finish, and fun to have a matching potholder - or maybe a mug rug to put on your nightstand when you use the quilt. =) I'm sorry your favorite mixing bowl went smash. I hope you can find another one just like it.

Julie, I have been rather absent from blogs and hadn't seen this purple quilt coming together. It is so gorgeous! Purple and green are a color combo I have turned to again and again. And in batiks the colors have such depth! Just beautiful, girlfriend.
And never let it be said that Julie wasted anything!!! Nice potholder. :)
Oh, I can imagine the sick feeling when that bowl came crashing down, but I like that you have tried to put a positive twist on it--shopping for a new bowl. LOL

Not just a loss of that old mixing bowl, but of much of the potato salad as well! I LOVE potato salad! It is getting hot out and time to make some more of that wonderful goodness! Will you be shopping online or venture out into the great unknown?
