Here is the state of the union message...I mean the union of little quilt pieces into bigger quilt pieces!

I have made some progress on several of the block of the month quilts...but they all look the same, so I will not bore you with them.  But above, is my Cheddarback quilt.  I absolutely love it!!  What a fun pattern...I have the next blocks cut out, just not sewn yet.

I have been cleaning like a mad woman. I have thrown a lot away and donated and repurposed a lot, too.   Above is a favorite quilt of mine.  All plaids...all hand quilted...coping strips utilized  because I had no idea how to make the border work to fit.  I love it so much...need to make a huge one, too, bed sized!!!  Do you find inspiration from your own quilts?  Hahaha!

This is a jewel box quilt...everything plus the kitchen sink in here.  Each block is 4 inches finished.

Lots of scraps in here!!  I just found this one and loved seeing it again.

Scrappy...kind of folk.  I am disappointed that I put a dark string border on this one,  because it kind of ruined the airy lightness of the quilt.  OH well...I like it anyway!!!

That is the state of the union!!

********************Nurse's Notes*************************

This nurse has become a victim...and a part of a special quilting club.   Do You want to know how to be in the club?

SEW THROUGH YOUR FINGER!!!

Seriously now...it is not bad, could have been much worse...and it smarts.  Have you done that trick yet?  It went right through my nail on the edge!

Have a great day, each of you!!

Oh Julie, Ouch! I hope you heal up quickly.
Lovely quilts that you've made. I think that Jewel Box is inspiring me. I have lots of 2" squares here :-)

Ouch! I joined that club when I was 9. Hopefully I will not have to renew my membership! Mom, a nurse, pulled out the pieces, slapped a bandaid on it and sat me right back down at the sewing machine to continue on.

Ouch! The sewing machine is my friend, its not supposed to attack me! LOL! I recently sewed my project to my pattern ?! LOL but I have to admit to having sewed my finger before, but not for a long time, just had close calls with breaking needles.

Never sewed my finger before so I think I will pass on joining your club.
I absolutely love the Jewel Box quilt. It is so beautiful. Of course, all of your quilts are really pretty, but I think I am drawn to that quilt because it is so scrappy. Scrappy quilts are my favorite.

I love all your quilts, I can see why you inspire yourself, lol. Cheddarback is wonderful buut I feel overwhelmed if I have too many quilts in work. Saving the patterns tho.

I sewed thru my thumb once at work dead center thru the nail and meat of thumb to the other side, on an industrial machine that didn't stop so quick when it happened. Really didn't hurt much but it was sorta icky getting the needle out of the machine then out of my thumb, eeew. LOL. Since you're a nurse I don't need to tell you to clean it well, I think they had me soak my hand in peroxide water for like 15 minutes?

lizzy at gone to the beach....

I understand that nurses aren't afraid of needles but isn't this carrying it a little too far? No? I mean through the nail? Ewwwhhh! I have never done that ... yet. Gosh! That most make a very sensitive for a few weeks. Know what? I'll pass on that new Club of yours. Sorry, girlfriend but there's places I just don't want to be. hahaha! Hope all heals well soon. Somewhere in my sewing room, I have a Jewel Box kit or maybe half of a kit. One day, I will have a Jewel box quilt. I love that design and yours is a very beautiful example. I love the scrappy HSTs with flowers quilt too. You did an awesome job on that one too. Take care. And please, watch your fingers! ;^)

I am part of the club-- sewn through a finger and stepped on a needle and drove it so far up in my heel that it had to be removed in the emergency room! Your scrappy beauties sing to my very soul; they're beautiful, each and every one!!

Ouch--so sorry that happened to you! My sister belongs to that club--she used to sew in a clothing factory. I haven't joined--yet.
I loved the show of your beautiful scrap quilts. Each one is beautiful. The star quilt you want to make in a larger version does not look small to start with. How large (or small) is it?

Beautiful quilts. I’ve sewn through my fingernail several times, and my finger

Oh gosh yes, I am in that club.
Sewed right through my left index finger, smack dab in the center of the nail.
It smarted. Two days afterward I sheepishly admitted to my hubby that I did that. He said where's are the needle bits? He's a retired paramedic.
I thought needle bits? Couldn't find them.
He the put a paper thin magnet on my fingernail and it didn't slide off. Oh crap. Needle broken off in finger next to the bone.
So I had outpatient surgery. Pretty expensive venture for being so stupid and not paying attention while sewing.
While at the ortho getting initial eval the nurse put the xray on the light box and had to leave the room. I snapped a photo of the needle bit in my finger.
I do computer generated labels, mainly because my writing is bad. Any who, put that photo of my finger on the label.
I re-titled the quilts name to 'Broken Needle Club' followed with (AKA orig quilt name)
The things we learn as we progress on our sewing journey! Sorry you sewed through your finger but glad the needle didn't break off IN your finger.

Love reading your blog ;-)

Love your quilts, especially the plaid stars! I'm in the club! I sewed through my pinky finger on my longarm. I was in the middle of a quilt and the machine stopped with the needle down...I never felt it go through. I was pinned...couldn't move, couldn't get the needle out and I was home alone. I wound up having to compress my finger enough so the needle could complete its cycle and come back up out of my finger, then called the doctor. He sent me off to the ER for a tetanus shot. Of course this was two days before Christmas and the ER was packed! I sat on a gurney in a hallway for ages before they finally got to me. Fortunately it missed the bone and they wrapped it and sent me home. My nail has never been the same!

Nice quilts but I really love that Jewel Box quilt. Ouch! Yes, I didn't take the needle out of a machine when I cleaned and oiled it. The needle dropped, and my finger was in the way. Thank goodness it only got the fleshy part of my finger. I had to wear a bandage the whole weekend, during my demo.

Love your scrap quilts! Ouch on your finger! I haven't sewn through any fingers, but quite close a few times while FMQ.

OW! I have not done that and hope never to. Thanks for the scrappy inspiration. Lovely!

Double Ouch!!!!! Your Chedderback is looking good! I am so far behind, but have cleared all things that need to have my attention and tomorrow will start on the completion of Star of Chamblie, and catch up with the Christmas SAL! Where is the time going?

Yes, I occasionally will spend HOURS reviewing my projects, quilts, happenings, friends posted on my blog. I reread the comments, and slobber over my best-loved projects. Like reviewing the family photo albums (not computer photos, but albums), remembering whatever was happening at the time of the quilt project. Then I will start yet another favorite quilt, so it must be a positive thing, going over all those memories. 8-)) ElaineAdair
