Time is marching on

I love this quilt.  I made it a long, long time ago, from a pattern by Shar Jorgensen.  I made a small quilt, hoping to save the pattern for a time when I could make a big quilt, because at that time,  I did not have the fabric to make a big one.

The day is here!  I cut up a ton of scraps, to make a bed sized quilt, from this idea.  I cut a bunch of pieces out yesterday, and find it amusing to see the difference of what is in my stash now, compared to back then. Most of the above scraps are reproductions.  Most of the scraps I have now are brighter. So the quilt will look quite different!!

I am feeling some time pressure in my life.  One thing is to get my home DE cluttered and cleaned out.    Maybe it is just my age, but I am feeling a very strong push to get quilts cut out, and prepared for the day when I cannot stand and cut pieces out anymore.  Also, to use up every scrap!!! I am not sure about why I am feeling such pressure...but I am going with it!!  Do any of you feel this way??

Have a super day!!

I do not know your age....but I was feeling this way too. Especially since the early part of the year, I had to clean out Mom's house. My thoughts are "Oh I do not want my children to have to pilfer through all this stuff". I have been trying for the last year not to buy fabric, unless it is to finish up something I already have.

What a sweet little quilt! I love those friendship stars tucked into the Irish Chain pattern. It will become an impressive bed quilt.
As for the pressure just relax and take one day at a time. Small progress adds up.

Yes, I feel the same way. I saved scraps for 35 years and now I am trying to use them up even though I have the resources to buy new fabric, and even though I have the option to just throw the scraps away. I can’t explain it. Is it my heritage from my depression era parents and grandparents? But it is fun, like putting together my own jigsaw puzzles.

As we get older, the need to clean up becomes very important. The next generation don't want our stuff or our parents stuff .... so the time is now to pass it on to people who want it. When we moved up here, the thrift stores got a ton of stuff from us and we felt good about passing on things. It has been six years and I'm going through my stuff again to declutter. Just have fun with your scraps and see what you make out of them.

Oh yes, I can attest that the day does come--it's here for me...I can do a bit of cutting and standing...but have really slowed down...everything is a cycle...there is a time for everything...what is it they say "Every dog has his day"?
hugs, julierose

I'm right there with you on this. I have a medium-sized fabric stash as well as a sizable yarn stash. I didn't downsize either when I moved, so I've got to get busy and use both stashes!

i sew as much as i can....being a hand quilter slows my finishes down but it's the part i love most....and if i leave behind a bunch of tops, no doubt they will find a home...

I love Irish chain patterns. I haven't seen this version before, do you have a pattern link by any chance? Lovely quilt!

I love your quilt. It will be nice with brighter fabric too.
I am not there yet, about the decluttering, but I know I don't want to leave a mountain of fabric to the boys. I don't think they will appreciate it as much as they are appreciating a quilt. So quilts, I am making. I keep track of how much I spend for my hobby/obsession and each year, the amount is less and less. I still haven't run out of fabric yet, lol. ;^)

Your quilt is really pretty; I love the little stars peeping out! I've been trying to shred lots of old stuff my kids don't need to dig through, and also been donating other items to the Paralyzed Veterans who send a truck to pick up items on my porch. Saves me having to take it to Good Will myself. ---"Love"

Yes I feel exactly like that. I don't want to get rid of anything but I have so much that I'm frightened I won't use it all! Having stuff cut out makes me more likely to start stitching than the thought of having to select and cut then stitch all in one go. I love that pattern. Every time I look at your blog I am inspired.

Oh my. For the past month or more, I've been trying to distribute my stash. I know that I'll never use all the fabric I have. So as go through it, I've been cutting off strips to keep and donating the rest. I'm keeping the scraps. I know that the fabric I've donated is going to groups that make quilts for charities. Thanks for sharing all the scrappy quilts you make. Scrappy is my favorite style of quilts.

I like the integration of the stars into that design. Very pretty.
I am feeling the pressure to finish UFOs!

It IS a fun, scrappy design, and I can see why you have wanted to make one bigger! Good luck with it, but I know you’ll be successful, because that’s who you are. Yes, I feel that angst, as well, and quite often. That’s when I plug into an audio book and get busy!

I love that Irish Chain variation! Can't wait to see your brighter version! 8)
I've been trying to use fabrics that I've hoarded for years. Part of me says 'oh, I'm saving that to use in a quilt' and another part is saying 'oh, like maybe this quilt in progress right here?' Little by little...

That is a cute quilt.
I joined a group that started at the beginning of the year purging, decluttering and cleaning, room by room. I think I only made it to the kitchen!

Pretty sure we've discussed this in the past..I've felt this way ever since DH passed and I had to pack up the 'big' house and downsize, moving all this fabric and everything else quilt related. SO much has been donated to the church quilt group and I have NO clue how I could possibly still have so much left. Very little sewing has happened and I get so mad at myself for ever buying so much. Oh well.....

Shar Jorgenson called me on the phone one time. I knew who it was immediately. Very recognizeable voice.

I have felt that pressure as well. It comes and goes. want to start some new projects but have to finish an old before I start a new one.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
