Dearest Boy update

Good morning, everyone!  I tried and tried to make the original block for this block...it was yucky.  What I mean is...it was a pain!  I think Karen accomplished it, but I substituted this block instead.
I am thinking of putting a flower or bird inside the double handled basket.  So on we go!!!  The next block is applique...and it is prepped and ready to stitch!!

*************************Nurse's Notes*************************

I am supposed to be at work today, but they put me on call.  So...for $2.00 per hour (I know, don't be jealous), I am supposed to stay by the phone and be available for the next 12 hours, just in case they need me.  So, I will do laundry and such, keep busy for my day...and will try to sneak in a little sewing!!

The census of hospital patients,  all across the nation, according to my hospital authorities, is down.  Which is a good thing, but it means that I don't get to work each shift I am scheduled.  It makes me want to find a supplemental job!!!

Can I just be a quilter for my second job?  LOL!

I had a very sad case the other day...a lady got very depressed, and for two years, she locked herself inside her apartment.  Deliveries of food were ordered, and some trash was passed out to the drivers, and a neighbor brought her mail to her,  but for the entire time, she never bathed or washed her hair...and there were just little trails among the "stuff" in her house, for her to pass through to the bathroom and back to her recliner.  Her legs were stuck in the shape of her recliner!!!

She stayed in her apartment, suffering a heart attack, for two days...finally, finally calling for help.  Her heart is so badly damaged, she is really on the verge of not making it.  Her long hair is in one large matted ball at the top of the pillow.  I may go in today and try to detangle it for her...poor thing!

If you have chest pain...you call 911 and get to the hospital as soon as you can!!

I see some very sad and odd things as a nurse, and I know my nursing friends can relate!

******************************************************************

Have a great day!

Julie

How sad that the lady's neighbor/family didn't call someone for help for her depression. ❤️ the basket block: it would be adorable with flowers or a bird inside.

SO sad. Depression is horrible for those who suffer and now, with technology, it is easier for these people to "hide" in plain sight. No need to go out, get everything delivered. Stay in touch via texting. I constantly tell my guy, don't text your kids, phone them. Listen to their voices, ask them questions.

I like that double handled basket. Was the handle your idea or had you seen one before?

I like your block. I made freezer paper templates for the block and it worked pretty well. Hugs, Cathy

Sorry the original didn’t work for you but I love your substitute block! Very sad to hear about one of your patients, she is lucky to have you as a caring nurse.

Good advice about calling 911. My son at age 41 was (is) a long haul truck driver. One cold night in January far from home, he was feeling ill, thinking that the eggs he had be supper were the cause. However, he decided he needed help, called 911 and had a heart attack in the ambulance. He recovered and still is driving a truck. He would certainly second your advice.

That is a very clever handle on your basket. I love the idea of a bird or flower in it.
Such a sad story! I dealt with depression many years ago, and I know how hard it is to force yourself to get out and face the world. I hope this lady will make it through and have a better quality of life.

Love the double handles on your basket. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Sorry to hear about your patient. It's a sad story. Hopefully she can get the help she needs.

Julie - I worked briefly at the central office (admin) of a small county hospital. LOTs of Seniors, poor county. One day a lady was brought in and in a matter of minutes, all the available nurses were going crazy, running around, wiping things down, etc., noise, what should we do ,etc., and finally 2 went out the door to their cars and away they sped. They came back with insect repellant, ant spray, flea deterrant. Yes, this was one of those ladies who hoarded cats! You probably have seen this before, but I had never even imagined anyone would live like that. Sad, sad, sad. hmmmm, live and learn. BTW, interesting GREEN string project! ElaineAdair

That poor lady. I'm off today (no pay) and I just started working. I really needed the time to get some stuff prepped, so I don't mind.

Heartbreaking story, prayers for the woman to heal physically and mentally.

You are amazing in keeping so many projects going.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
