Progress!!

I spent some time on the road recently, and hand quilted half of this quilt.  Also...I bound it.  I apparently really scandalized one quilter by binding it first...Giggle!  I explained that I sandwich it carefully, pinning a lot, then stabilize the outside with quilting, then add the binding.  It really helps keep the sandwich edges from raveling while getting tossed about it the car, on my lap, or transferred to the back seat, etc.  Try it once!!  It works, for it's purpose!
This quilt is on my list to finish this year.  These are my bitty blocks, from a quilt along a few years ago.  I am making progress...these rows are all sewn together now, and I have two more rows cut out.  Super fun!!
And tada!!  I finished the applique on my Dearest Boy block, A-5.  I love those cherries!!!  Delicious...and I have some real cherries in my fridge, to eat tomorrow, for the fourth!

Have a super day, each of you!!

Lovely, lovely progress! I get what you mean about doing the careful prep before binding and then coming back and adding in the stitching. I've done it before in a much less intensive manner. Sometimes it's the best way!!

I often do the binding before hand quilting. I agree, it seems to stabilize everything.

There is the theoretical way and the practical way. Kudos to you for finding the practical way for hand quilting a big quilt in a car. You are a very smart woman. Love your projects. Enjoy the parade, fireworks, day-off, and whatever else the 4th of July might bring your way. ;^)

Even when machine quilting (I don’t have a long arm) I will bind before completing the quilting . I do the grid quilting and the borders then bind. Then I can do the “fancier” quilting in each of the blocks. Less mess by binding earlier for sure!

I have known of people who bind first and then quilt. If it works for you, then it is right.

I don't know how you get so much done, but it is fascinating to watch!
Very good looking cherries! :)

Good job on the cherries. You get so much done. You work and I'm retired and can't even come close to getting my projects done. Happy 4th of July. Hugs

Sweet work on your blocks for Dearest Boy. This looks like a fun quilt. And I love your blue and greens scrappy one. That's great idea for the binding. Happy 4th!

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
