Binding

I am working on hand binding this quilt!  I am using single fold red scrappy binding.  A few minutes each night will eventually get all my bindings done.
Here is the whole quilt...so may I have your opinion on single fold versus double fold binding, and straight binding versus bias binding!??  This is the first large quilt, I think, that I have used single binding on.
Here are three more blocks, heading toward twenty!  Whoop!!!

Have a great day, everyone!!

I prefer single fold binding. If the binding is going to wear out and needs to be replaced - it will wear out whether it is double or single fold. The single fold is lighter and easier to hold in place as you work. I only cut bias binding if I'm doing curves. I've never had any trouble using straight binding on my quilts and actually think the corners are crisper using straight binding. I know we are all different but this is what works for me.

I always use double fold....just because that is the way I was taught. Straight binding most of the time unless there are curves to go round. Or I want a stripe on an angle.

I have always used single fold on my minis and double fold on my bed size quilts. Like Karen, that is just how I was taught.
I've yet to have a bias cut binding wear out on the edge, but I have had straight cut binding wear out right along the edge. I cut whatever works out with the fabric I choose to use. I often do use bias cut.

Like Janet, I use double gold on full-size quilts and single on wall hangings or something that won't get a lot of handling or tugging. I always make WOF binding, simply because it's easier for me.

The quilt and blocks look fantastic.

Just a lovely finish on this quilt! I always use double fold on large pieces like my
Grand-mere showed me...;))) and straight cut--I only use bias for basket handles etc...
red sounds great for the color...hugs, Julierose

Very pretty! Love the new blocks, too. There's just something about pinwheels! I use a double fold, straight cut. It's what I was taught and all I know!

I so love this quilt. You did an awesome job with this one. The design, the fabric, the colors, the red pinwheels, all is so lovely. Congrats on getting it done. On bias or straight on, I have always done two folds because I thought that the way it was done. I have discovered that we can do single fold binding and I am still experimenting it. I can say that so far I still prefer two folds as it makes the edge puffier. It's true that for curves, bias is best. Love the newest blocks. ;^)

That's a beauty! I like double fold binding, it's weight and thickness, the way it feels when you run your hand along it. Plaids and stripes are fun in bias double fold, but I've made those only rarely. Single fold I find harder to do! And bring the backing to the front just plain annoying!

Hi Julie :-) I prefer double fold (as it has the raw edge out of the way) and usually straight binding. I use bias if I want the look of the plaid on bias :-)

I have only ever used single fold on mini quilts, simply to reduce bulk.

I alway use double fold straight binding, because it is easier and I don't normally have curved edges. I am told that double fold binding will last longer. Who knows, I have only been quilting 14 years and those first quilts are not getting daily use....so not conclusive results!

I'm a double fold basis binding kind of a gal on big or small pieces, but I will occasional make straight of the grain binding depending on the fabric. I've found single fold binding a lot more challenging. I like having the folded edge being my stitching edge. It keeps it smooth and even and I like the feel of the slightly thicker edge.

I'm one that uses double fold bias binding on most of my quilts. I find it's easier to use. On minis I'll use single fold binding and sometimes straight cut. If I'm using jelly rolls I'll use the straight cut strips. Currently I'm attempting to use a narrower binding - 2" or 2-1/4" instead of 2-1/2". Always learning. Always willing to try something different

When I looked at your quilt, it reminded me that pattern has been on my 'to do' list for years. Thanks for doing it for me! Lovely, lovely, lovely.
I do 2" double binding only on WOF or bias. The straight of grain has no give.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
