Called in to work today.

OK, Nicky...this is for you!  My friend Nicky (blogging here), sent me the most fun video link on U-tube.  The above pattern is the start of a fun scrappy quilt from the two inch strip and square box.  That two inch box was not shutting either...so something had to give.  I think this will be a really fun quilt when it is in one piece, even though is does not look like much now.  Of course, I could have used 2.5 or 3 inch pieces...but I had the most of 2 inchers.
In making the above alternate blocks for the 16 patch blocks above, I have made a whole bunch of tiny half square triangles again!  so...I am sewing them into these blocks.  I like them!  Lots of color, and I remember so many projects I have worked on in the past...fun, fun!  And little!

********************Nurse's notes*****************

I was called in to work today.  Yahoo!  that means we are busier, and not getting cancelled and put on call...yippee!

He was a really strong, laborer type of guy...you know the ones:  darkened skin by the sun, muscled and hard looking, scarred and calloused hands.  And tough!  So tough that he let his chest pain go on, and on, and on...only coming to the hospital when he was passing out from pain.  A major acute heart attack!  so off to the cath lab.  And a fix with a stent!  But....his labs belie the real story...he is fixing to get sicker...much sicker. Way too much heart damage occurred in that time he delayed coming to the hospital. The heart muscle downstream from the blocked artery causing the chest pain died.   Time will tell if he will ever be able to work again.

So...here in lies the message!  Take your chest pain seriously...truly...and call 911 if needed.  Don't delay...learn from this poor fellow!!

End of  this service message...

Have a great day!!

Julie

Sometime it takes a frank story to get us to understand the importance of caring for our bodies.

My mother was home pushing around a couch and felt pain. She does not like going to the doctor so best to ignor it. By the time father got home she was in pain. They live out in the country, better to drive her to the hospital than wait the hour for a ride.
She has dimished abilities, but that is because she wont walk, drink water, or eat properly. Another story with results of non action.

More great scrap projects in the making--always inspired when I visit here, Julie.
Nice reminder about getting things checked out in a timely manner.

Great scrappy project. As for nurses notes, my dad did the exact right thing last week, called 911 as he was home alone in the night, and within 5 days they had put in 5 stints. 99% blockage in his main artery. When I told him he was a lucky guy, he replied, "No, I'm a smart guy, I didn't want to be a statistic" So at 77+ he is still ticking along

Thanks for that!! I rushed off to the hospital with chest pain last year. (Pulled a chest muscle while swimming!) All ended well and the doctor and nurses assured me that I did the right thing by coming in. Don't mess with chest pain was their motto!! Thanks for the shout out!! I hope this fella will be OK!

Re nurse's notes, how much time are we talking about that the guy delayed? Chest pain, so scary.

So one video link equates to two new quilt tops - you know I want to join you with this one Julie but my hands are full for the moment!

Ok I will not ignore chest pains! I am listening and will pass it on!

Julie looks like the beginnings of a gorgeous quilt! I so love scrappy and following you gives me great ideas on how to use these mulitudes of scrapps that are reproducing themselves while I sleep (that is my excuse and I am sticking to it)
Thanks for warning, I think it becomes very intimitating going to ER sometimes you are greeted with unbelievability before you even open your mouth. (triage)

My whole nursing career was always so busy. We always had to beg for an extra day off. But IV therapy is done to everyone these days. When the census was down, we got busier as only the sickest was left in the hospital. I used to tell the bosses that the goal for any hospital should be 50% occupancy, cause if there are empty beds, the hospital is doing it's job by keeping more folks healthy.....

I am also interested in knowing what pattern that is. I have been looking for a new leader/ender idea and that looks like it might be just perfect.

And, thanks for the reminder that it is OK to be tough if you are smart about it and know when it is manly to go to the doctor.

Excellent service message! My prayers are going up for this man's life that has been interrupted. I'm praying he sees this season through and figures out the new path he will be on.
I love Nicky's quilts and voted for her too. I am not seeing the link for the You Tube though. Any hints for me?
Hope your shift was a good one :-)

Julie,
Could you please email me with the name of that pattern in the first picture and where I can find it?

Thanks in advance,
Loretta

I have had so many (male) patients whose wives dragged them to the ER under duress, only to find out they DID have a heart attack after all. So many people buy into the television heart attack--the chest-grabbing, staggering syndrome--they don't pay attention to their own body's symptoms. Thanks for getting the word out, Julie!

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
