Here and there...a little progress!

Happy Monday!!  I made a tiny bit of progress of these rainbow blocks...I decided to set them together this way.  This is my own invention...just a little something different.
I did make some progress on my "Sweet Land of Liberty" quilt along, with Lori of Humble quilts.  I made these two blocks...and they are indeed humble, like Lori's blog name, LOL!!  I have decided that I just don't really like paper piecing, or maybe I really don't know how to do it!  Anyway, I made a pattern to paper piece for the pineapple top, and it was STRESSFUL!  HAHAHA!  I decided to leave it just the way it was and it is good enough for me.

Here is the center of my star block.  It was fun to do the embroidery!  I sat still and did it all in one setting.  Yahoo for progress!!

I cleaned, mopped, swept, vacuumed, scrubbed bathrooms, washed my car, did laundry and mowed the lawn yesterday!  WHEW!!  So today?  I messed around, sewed, went to the silliest of In-Services at work....

But I want to know...is the above picture poison IVY?  Do you know???  Thank you for any wisdom...it is in my yard.

*********************************************Nurse's notes*******

Our dear Cheri Paine, a famous primitive quilts designer, passed away yesterday.  My heart is so sad for her and her family.  The "Sweet Land of Liberty" quilt that we are making as a group is her design, so the stitching is bitter sweet.

I know I am just missing her.  Cancer is just a terrible thing.

Hugs to all from Julie

I love how you arranged the heart blocks. ♥
I am not a botanic but it seems it is not poison ivy, check the pictures on google and compare.
I am so sorry for your lost.

I too am saddened by the death of a quilting legend. Cheri will indeed be missed.
From an Oncology nurses' view point:
God is the master creator~ He made no mistakes when He created us. We eat, drink, exercise, have relationships and worship. When it is time to leave the earthly body, in His almighty wisdom, He created us to no longer want to eat or drink. It was His gracious gift to us in leaving this world in less anguish. Extra fluids only prolong the inevitable and make the passing so much more difficult for the patient: mainly from a breathing perspective. "Drying" of the body allows the patient to breath easier and not prolong the inevitable.
I pray for God's love, grace and peace to surround Cheri's family and the quilting community as we mourn our loss.

I'm not sure about the ivy, but remember the old rhyme that states, "Leaves of three? Leave them be." I think it may be a poisonous vine.

HI Darlynn; thank you for the onc nurse input. As a cardiac nurse, I am lucky to see most of my sick patients get well and go home. We greatly emphasize good nutrition, early on, and that is where I thought Cheri could benefit, not at the end of life. I know she had a great medical team, and I guess I just miss her and want her here. I totally agree...God is in charge, for sure! Hugs!

Although I am not an expert, it does not look like poison ivy. The edges are too jagged. Yes, it is leaves of three, but I wonder if these leaves are the same as that tree and it is starting New shoots. As a kif, I had to locate it for my mom who was highly allergic and kill it.

Love those beautiful purple hearts. A really pretty setting for them!
Cheri was a generous quilter. I had followed her blog for years, but when she quit blogging I only heard of her from others (not on Facebook). Was sorry to hear about her cancer battle, but it is a blessing for her to be released from the fight. Prayers for her family!

I agree with Debbie, edges too jagged for poison ivy. But poison oak? I'm never sure about that one.

Although poison ivy can take many forms, the leaves look too jagged, veins too prominent, and if you look closely I think you may find tiny thorns. Then it's definitely not poison ivy or poison oak. It's a common weedy vine that I don't know the name of. Poison ivy can have tiny root-like tendrils along the stems, but definitely not thorny or briary.

Thank you so much for all you share about quilts.

Wonderful setting for your purple blocks!
Hope you don't have poison ivy... we often come across it when camping in the summer and at least one of us gets the dreaded rash!

I love your interpretation of the blocks. Hugs

I really like your idea for setting your rainbow blocks together. It looks playful and fun. Your Liberty blocks also have the same whimsie charming spirit.

I love DarLynn's comment and couldn't agree more.
I think your pineapple looks great! You may want to start thinking about the 4 patch with the tin man and little girls. I'm planning on re-doing mine!
Love your little 4 block quilt.
Don't know about the ivy.

I like how you set the heart blocks. The sashing is great. Sorry about the loss of the quilter. I've heard of her, but, I don't think I have any of her patterns (I don't do much applique). We had snow yesterday, and more expected Wed afternoon. Not expected to reach 60 in the next week. No outside anything going on here. I ran into poison ivy years ago. Took 2 rounds of meds to get rid of it. I still don't recognize it, sorry. Wear disposable gloves to get rid of that stuff, if it is poison ivy.

Looks like wild black raspberry . . . most likely planted by the birds that frequent your yard.

I love the purple blocks, and I tend to agree with the previous commenter who said the vine looked like a wild black raspberry (or blackberry), that would be my first guess.

The heart blocks are wonderful. A different version of that block than I have seen anywhere else.

Love your purple blocks. I think your very healthy vine is poison ivy. Be cautious!
