Worked the weekend

I know you all have seen this quilt before, but I am loving it especially today, because it is hand quilted and made all from old plaids from the thrift store and other places. It is big stitch quilted, all by hand.  It is soft and worn and just one of my favorites.

Here is Rosie on the quilt...she is in the middle of whatever I am doing...I love that little doggie!!

Above is my current big stitch quilting project...the latest plaid sampler I made.  It is fun to see it all shrunken and becoming so soft and homey looking after stitching and washing.

Twosies!!  I have been sewing lots and lots of 1.5 inch squares together;  the goal is to make a postage stamp quilt.  Here are the first three rows...it is doubled back due to the difficulty of taking a picture of just a long strip.
I have been stealthily cutting a few 1.5 inch squares from every fabric I have, or maybe eek one square out from a scrap...so this quilt is truly a work of scrap!!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!

Julie

Such sweet plaids :-)
Love the hand stitched fans. It would be a favorite to me as well.
I save those 1 1/2" squares too. Little bitty squares are great to play with.
I'm stitching blocks into rows today :-)

Quilts should be used, laundered and enjoyed. Those that are babied may last longer, but then won't be as loved and appreciated.

A+ on the quilts (and cute Rosie)

Love it Julie! You need to do a tutorial for us on how to do the big stitch... what thread, what needles, hoops, etc... I want to try it!!!!!

How can we ever get tired of looking at such beautiful quilts? Love them both. I too love a hand quilted one after it has been washed. They get puffy and soft like a teddy bear. Can never get that feeling from a commercial quilt. Never! Great stitches too.

I love your 2013 Country Threads Sampler. I made one too and really enjoyed it, but have not started on this year's...Thanks for sharing!

I love both of your quilts, but I love plaids too! They look really good with the big stitch quilting! Your postage stamp quilt is going to be terrific!

Love to see the plaids--and the big stitching!
Your postage stamp quilt will be very cool! Someday maybe I will get serious about making one of those!

Your cozy, traditional quilt from plaid shirts is definitely an inspiration for me. My supply of thrift store shirts keeps growing, but I have yet to begin a quilt. Thanks for the push. Maybe this month I'll take that first step.
Your hand quilting is also on my "wish I did it like Julie" list. I'll never be a precise, tiny stitches quilter. Big stitches for me.

Ooh, your hand quilted fans are perfect for the sampler! It will make it so soft and wonderful! Do you use a stencil for your fans? Fans are my absolute favorite pattern, but I've never actually done them! Need to get brave and try them some day. Your postage stamp is on its way to being another scrappy winner!

I'm an avid maker of postage-stamp quilts. Working on them is my idea of bliss. Fabulous to see the beginnings of yours. I look forward to watching it grow.

You certainly DID work! I always love to see your work. I'm really impressed with the big quilt quilting. I've only done it on one quilt and I forget how stunning it can be!

Can you offer some tips about hand quilting baptist fans? I want to do that on my basket quilt but am not sure how to keep things even and looking nice. Great quilt!

Lots of things going on!

Good morning, or evening to you!!!  I have been sewing pouches of different sizes, and I enjoy filling them with different things and giftin...
