Good Morning!! Above are the prettiest broken dishes blocks! They were made by Linda, my quilting friend...you just have to see them! They are perfectly pieced, and perfectly pressed with swirled centers pressed on the back...the blocks are wonderful! And there are a ton of then, included in her scraps boxes gifted to me. I had some 3 inch squares and placed a few of them, experimentally, in between the blocks...pretty!! I would like to showcase the blocks, more, though...any ideas??
Told you there were a ton of these blocks! Linda made these blocks from the leftover triangles from making flying geese. Cool, huh!??
I cannot settle down and work on anything, restless, wandering this morning...maybe later I will settle down and concentrate on one thing, LOL!!!

Getting results of a mammogram today...I always seem out of sorts until I get the answer...this is because two times they told me I had cancer.
Julie, I made a small quilt I call Broken Leftover Dishes. I made it from the little HSTs left over from my daughter's quilt that she pieced and hand quilted. It's one of my favorites. I looked on my blog, and never posted a pic of the whole thing. Here is a pic of the one I made for my friend. Mine has a red border, hers a blue. I love the way this setting showcases the broken dishes blocks.
It seems that all your friend's blocks are made from Thimbleberries fabrics. You know what that means? It means it needs to live at my house with all it's TB cousins. Just sayin'...

I think you're on the right track with the setting for your blocks. The simpler, the better.
Love that quilt block, another I want to make someday. When I get restless, I clean, only way it gets done, lol.

I like what you've done so far with your experimental setting for the broken dishes blocks. Oh, I can't concentrate today either! What is it? This morning I left the house trying to find our Restore. Left my directions at home. Couldn't find it. I knew there was a small quilt store nearby...I've been there. Couldn't find it. Ran by Target to return something. Carried an empty Target bag into the store and left the return item in the car. I came home and plan to sit quietly the rest of the day!
These are indeed lovely little blocks. I can see them playing nicely with just one light-medium print in the opposite blocks. Perhaps a soft blue or pink or even green. Something with a slightly warm tint. Thanks for sharing.
I really like the scrappy squares set with the broken dishes blocks. So pretty.
Beautiful! I have some red and white leftover triangles and this gives me a great idea for using them. Sorry, no brilliant suggestions from me other than narrow sashing and cornerstone, which of course means loads more cutting and work!

These broken dishes blocks are so sweet! Love them! I think a mix of darker neutrals (darker than your carpeting) would highlight them. They kindof fade away where the light carpet is, but pop where the darker squares are.
And I hope Amelia gets good news for her mamo.....I'm getting mine done tomorrow with my yearly physical.....poked, prodded, and squished! Oh boy!

How about setting the blocks with a variety of cream/beige light squares? It might show off the blocks better?

Hello Julie, my thoughts were instead of different coloured blocks in between..the Broken Dishes....to have just one colour..featured throughout...maybe lay it out and see......sorry you are restless....I have some work for a couple of weeks...and when it finishes....I will be unsettled...until I get back into the home routine....hugs lyn
Julie, my first thought was to use a solid or a light print that reads solid. Using the same fabric would make the blocks "pop." What awesome broken dishes blocks! What a gift! Hard to imagine that your friend didn't want to keep these.

Oh how beautiful!! I will always love scrappy quilts. I can't say I have a whole to to contribuite as to construction...I just did a post on "freezing" when it came to fabric choice...but I'm sure you will turn those blocks into a breathtaking quilt. Hope you are able to relax and do the things that make you smile. Hugs to you.
If I was going to showcase the blocks, I would set them with all the same background, probably an off-white. Sometimes the simpler option is the best. It kinda depends on what kind of quilting will occur. Good luck with all the decisions! 8-)
Me again - it looks like they are all comgined with a CREAM color, so Cream instead of off-white would be my choice.
I love the little blocks! I think they might get lost with scrappy colors as setting squares. What about a single color? and not necesarily muslin.

Would it be okay to make a quilt similar to the one plaid quilt you have in your top photo? I just have everyday scraps to use rather than a theme (like plaids). I have enough strings to make 20 quilts and have to make room for other things. Thanks!
