Hand quilting by candle and flashlight illumination! Hat update too!

Good morning, everyone!!  I am grateful for heat!! We are having rolling blackouts, here in Texas, which means we have 20 hours of dark and cold, and 4 hours of heat, if history serves me (this has happened twice now).   Many of my friends have had no heat since Sunday night.  Whoop whoop for the heat!!!  I wanted to stay productive in the darkness, so I layered this little quilt up, and have been hand quilting it, stitch in the ditch.  I have made very good progress, using my bright candle and a little flashlight.  My stitches are pretty good, surprisingly!
Here is the fabric I used on the back, and my label in place.  The binding is on, too and is waiting for hand stitching.   Great fun!!!

 ********************THE HAT PROJECT!!!!!!!!!********************

I continue to make nursing hats, and this is one of the latest ones.  I wanted to give you all an update!

TADA!!!!!!!!!!!!  Together, we have made 413 nursing hats!!

I just want to thank you, each of you,  from our hearts to yours, for all of your efforts and love.  Some made hats, some made bags, some made masks for all of us in healthcare.  You are appreciated and loved!!!!!!!  I see your hats every single day, running around on someone's head, and your bags are used every single day.  THANK YOU!!!!! for your generosity of heart!

Have a lovely day: I am off to do all I can while the power is on.  I just pray for the 3 million people in the cold and dark, that their power is restored quickly!!

Julie

I'm so sorry about your heat and electrical problems. I don't think I could take it. Love the quilt you are working on Hugs

I am glad you were able to get your heat back. I do hope it stays on. Your nine patch quilt is so pretty. Good idea for working on hand quilting it while you waited. I am glad you were able to keep your stitch length despite the limited lighting.

What a lovely quilt. I don't think I've seen this one of yours before. I put together a Florence Peto quilt with a friend a while back but it's still waiting to be quilted. Your quilt is delightful to look at. Nice job.

Mine were not rolling (supposed to only be off 15-45 min each time). I had 2 hours off, then 8 hrs. on, then 12 off, 2 on, off for several more then yesterday afternoon came back on and, THANK GOD, it's stayed on!! I just cringe thinking of folks whose have been out for days!! AWFUL!! But then I always think about homeless folks when it's cold out; I honestly don't know how they do it.

The effects of this winter storm has been terrible for all of in the south. Hoping it will warm up soon. Both inside and outside. Love how productive you always are.

Glad you have had a respite from the cold. I remember a week without power back in the 1980s; it was not fun. Be sure to let your faucets drip (also open your cupboard doors under the sink) and don't forget to charge your devices while you have power! While we have had quite a bit of snow since Christmas, our area has been spared the worst stuff (so far) and our community club (HOA) has done a great job of maintaining the roads. Stay warm and stay safe.

I so understand your pain. We are no strangers to power failure during Winter. The worst was in 1998 when we were hit by the ice storm. It lasted 3 weeks and some people didn't get power back for months. But at least, we are prepared for this as we experience some power failures at least once every winter. Every second household has a generator (except us). Candles are good heat and hanging quilts in front of doors or old windows to cut the drafts down is another trick we use. When the power is back on, do a lot of baking if you can. The oven will help the furnace to bring the temperature up. Close doors to rooms you aren't using. Cut the draft at the bottom of those doors with rags or sheets to keep the cold air in that room. If you can, try closing the vent of the hoodfan where cold may come in. Sending prayers that all get fix soon. Hang in there. ;^)

Love this quilt--and you are very dedicated to hand quilt during a power outage. I think I would be lucky if I could even read!
That is a lot of nurse's hats you and your readers have made! Oh, and I used that very fabric to make some Valentines masks for friends and family. :)

Oh, goodness, you poor Texans! Who would have thought? I hope everything gets back to normal soon! We have been fortunate this week. Even with the snow and ice, we have kept power, but my heart and prayers go out to those who haven't!

So sorry that Texas is getting the "cold shoulder" right now. Hope you aren't getting too chilly when the power is off. Here in Central Oregon we are experiencing another snow storm. Hope it quits soon, for all of us.

Hope the situation in Texas turns from terrible into better--the news is very shocking.
Your hand stitching is sanity saving, I'd think. How can you get to work?
Thinking of you...

My best friend didn't have power for 4 days. No rolling blackouts in San Angelo. My parents and inlaws don't have water (and may not for several more days). Despite it getting warm now, and the snow is melted, there is still trouble for lots of Texans.

It is not everyone's business to write such a great post, one person in a million can write such a beautiful post and you are one of those millions. I hope that you will write more beautiful posts in life and also hope that you will keep climbing the ladder of achievement in your life, very few people do this but I have full hope from you.
