A string quilt!

Rosie is so helpful, in assisting me to arrange these quilt panels.  Thank you, Rosie!
I had enough strings to complete four panels.  I may have enough to complete one more.  If you imagine those panels to be crooked, they are.  Crooked as a hound dog's hing leg, they are!!!  LOL!  It will all be fine in the end product.
I have continued of this afghan, in much the same color range, not planning for that,  but close!  The thread is tiny...about half the size of regular yarn.
I have begun to make some masks.  Our hospital is already telling us that we won't have enough, and we are already rationing what we have.  I figure that Something is better than nothing.  These will not filter a virus, but they will stop a blood splash or sputum droplets, and that will save the other kind of masks for caring for sicker patients.  I am making a dozen and putting them in my locker and other's lockers, just for in case.  If they don't get used...hurrah!

*******************Corona Virus at the hospital***********************

We have our first confirmed Corona virus death in our ICU.  More are sequestered in our isolation rooms.  It is taking a very long time to get testing back, and tests are limited. I think they are getting more available, but the labs are having a hard time keeping up.  Staff is nervous, but nurses are coming out of retirement and desk jobs, back to the bedside, to help.

I like this one.  Especially the twist tie...I am using craft wire, so I can fit the mask closely to my nose.

Enjoy your sewing!

You take care of yourself too. You're in my prayers as are all the front line people. ;^)

I loved watching the instruction video. It was so simple to follow the directions (more steps than I expected ) and the music was so soothing. I'm going to give it a try. Stay safe.

It's wonderful to hear from you but I'm so sorry to hear of the death and continued shortage of supplies. I had watched this same video earlier today and looked for some supplies. Quilters are talking about using plastic twist ties for the top section to mold over the nose. I only have paper covered ties and worried the paper would make a mess if ever washed. Just covering a piece of wire might work. The elastic I have is also 1/2" wide but might have to use it anyway. Do you know what the filter is that the video shows the woman using? Another video suggested putting a layer of non-woven fabric like we find in some shopping bags. I do have that. National Quilting Day is a good time to get going on these.
Praying for your continued health and strength. Hugs to you and Rosie. She's doing a good job helping you with your lovely new quilt project :-)

I had to laugh at your description of the rows of strings, but the rest of your post is no laughing matter. We pray for the safety of all our caregivers. May God go with you.

I look forward to seeing what you do with the string panels. Rosie is a good helper.
I spent the day making masks for my daughter in law who is a nurse in Iowa. They are rationing the good masks - one per night. She is pregnant with our first grandson. It worries me that she’s working in a hospital with virus patients. She is on the neurology floor. My sister is making some for her sons girlfriend who is an ER nurse in a county hospital. They are totally out of the good masks!! Scary times. I’m staying home and trying to keep my mind calm. Sewing the masks today made me feel like I’m helping in a small way.

You nurses are an exceptional section of the human race!
My Dad would say "top shelf humans"!
Sending you lots of love and strength to keep going!

I'm making masks, too! A hospice/home health group was in dire need so there are 3 or 4 ladies making masks for them. Amazed that you're getting ANYthing else done given the amount of time you've been working! Was your death the guy from the Masonic home?

I'm going to make some masks for my client and his family, along with some for my family. Stay safe, and I hope you don't have a need for those masks.

Stay safe. PLEASE tell your coworkers just how much they are loved and appreciated.

I was wondering how much handmade masks would be of use in hospital settings and you have answered my question.

I want to tell you-- so you can tell your fellow nurses-- that we so appreciate your putting yourselves in harm's way for us all..At 76 (hubby 81) we are staying put--just need to go for a few grocery items..things are getting scarce around here as that virus is hitting CT..

In the meantime, in between worry time, I am sewing in 15 min increments to not stress out my sore back..I cherish those sewing times...they enable me to cast away the worry for a few precious minutes..;))))
Stay safe now...hugs from afar Julierose

Thank you to you and your co-workers for your hard work at your local hospital serving your community . I watched the video and have saved this version. Thanks again.

It is surprising, the similarity of the color palette in your two projects.
Bless you and all the medical personnel who are being run off their feet to be prepared for and keep up with this pandemic.
That is a great mask tutorial--thanks for the link.
Praying for you!

Fabric masks are not ideal I am told because you can still get droplets in via your eyes, so I hope you wear glasses or can use safety glasses to reduce the risk further. Good luck, medics, nursing and hospital staff on the front line are the real heros!

Yes, Sue, they are not ideal. But if I have a choice of a fabric mask and googles, and nothing...I choose the fabric mask. Thank you so much!

Rosie is so sweet! Love the strings!!
So many are making masks- which is great. I think a common goal for quilters brings us together. I'd rather be home sewing, but I'll say I'm doing my part by being "essential" and helping to keep the economy going.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
