Have a great weekend, everyone! My heart is still hurting for those people effected by all the tornadoes across the country...Judy of Patchwork times is giving away a quilt to a lucky person who donates to the Red Cross! Way to go, Judy!!

What, no quilt out of your old nursing tops? : )
Out with the old!! Have a wonderful weekend.
Oh! my!!! I still have all my white nurses' uniforms, I couldn't part with them. Last year on International Nurses' Day (12th May)a couple of us decided to have a day when we would all dress in our whites and veils. As I had quite a few uniforms I shared mine out to those who fit into them, and everyone else found whites to wear. We wore white stockings, and I made all the veils (out of light white card stock). I even have a wonderful long cape, blue on one side and red on the other. (I gave it to our Director of Nursing to wear for the photo that was in the paper). I contacted the local newspaper and tv station, they did stories on our special Day, and all the doctors in our unit provided a wonderful morning tea for all the nurses. It was a great day and the patients just loved it, they felt they were being taken care of by 'real' nurses LOL!!! I should send you a pic! This year because the day fell on a weekend we didn't make a fuss. When I trained we wore uniforms that resembled those of the Florence Nightingale style, very English, black shoes & stockings, highly starched pinstrip dresses with aprons (well below the knee) and starched caps. Nowadays we wear civvies in our unit, but the girls in ED all wear the scrubs etc.
Thanks for sharing, maybe you should post a pic of you in your uniform LOL, if you do then I will LOL!!!!
I just retired from 32 years of nursing, and the first thing i did was give all of my scrubs away. My white things had gone long ago, lol. Nursing license is now inactive, and CPR expired. I have definitely burned all of my bridges, lol. But, I always did like wearing white to work, felt more professional. Thank goodness the cap thing died before I started working.
Brings back memories. I actually loved wearing the whites AND the cap. Seemed more professional, and no one mistook us for the housekeeping staff!
It looks like you had a stylish top......but I don't recall how long it's been now since I saw a nurse in white, so I guess it was quite safe to get rid of that top now! :)
You make me laugh. Did you wear a little nurse's cap too with support hose and white oxfords? Grinning and running but saying adding this first....you could do what Julie Sefton is doing and have people send you appliques and blocks and such and coat the coat with them.
I loved the comment from Merilyn..I want to see that photo! You just might reconsider re-wearing the white, just add a cape and a veil! Oh, I miss the days when you could tell the nurses and doctors from the lab techs and so on! Mostly I miss the pin on hats!!!!
Julie, my FQs are en route to you for your think pink box. They should arrive by Wednesday!
have a great weekend
I still have my cape and somewhere in the linen closet is a fully starched cap, pristine in its wrapping. My original black band is in my jewellery box. I don't think I will ever part with them.
Hi Julie ,I was just over at Millie's Quilting and wow your quilts look great.I was happy to see your blog header quilt on its way to being finished...the photos look wonderful. You must be excited to see them finished too!
Oh, I hope you don't get rid of your top even if you don't wear it any longer - it's a true piece of your history *s* I am still toting around my McDonalds uniform from 1978, it's a reminder of how thin I used to be, the time that I met Hubby and the awful colors that we used to think were fashionable *lol*
I still remember my first uniforms--white of course. Some of the daring nurses wore colored cardigans--I started to wear a colored pullover sweater over my uniform--was given many compliments and started a trend.
Now we all dress like we work at the car wash....
I really like the comfort and care of scrubs, but they sure are ugly.
