Log Cabin Loonies!!!

 So, fellow Log Cabin Loonies!!!  Isn't this such a dear, wonderful log cabin variation, above?  I just love it!  It was on Pinterest, and I cannot find who made it...if it is yours, I give you all the credit, and salute you!  and I wish I had the pattern!!  Such a darling Log Cabin Quilt!!  Just a little inspiration for all of us, in Log Cabin lunacy mode.

Log Cabin Lunacy...part two!!

 So!! There are so many fun variations of log cabin quilts!!! Here is another log cabin variation.  This one has little squares (gold) added to each strips of the block.  Adds more time, but I love the effect!  I have seen this done with red squares, and it is so pretty...this is on my guest room bed.

 These are all reproductions fabrics, and started from 1.5 inch strips, finishing at 1 inch.

Log cabin blocks can be made in so many different ways!!  Here are some I started last summer, after drooling over Lori's quilt, that I saw on her blog, Humble quilts.  I have a bunch of these made, but not put together yet.  Yet another variation!!



We have such a fun bunch of quilters that are joining in on Log Cabin Lunacy!!  So....every full Moon (Luna, get it?)  we will all show what we are doing, using our strips and scraps to make log cabin quilts!!  No rules, folks...this is just fun, mindless sewing...you can just show a bunch of strips or a pile of fabric, or your idea...or your finished quilt, or progress...or maybe this is just the thing to get you finishing your own log cabin quilt!  There will be some fun prizes and gifts along the way to add to the fun, too!  (does this mean that we are LOG CABIN LUNATICS? LOL!!)  or is that just me....hmmmmmm!


I will start a list of the side of my blog, for participants, linking to your blogs, so quilters can come and visit your blog.  It is going to be great fun!!!

Log Cabin Lunacy!!!

 Hey y'all!!  ( that is what they say, down here in the south!)  How about some Log Cabin Lunacy!!!

 This is a log cabin quilt I made in the last couple of years.  It has 1/2 inch finished logs!  Lunacy, I tell ya!!

 It was super great fun, and used lots and lots of scraps.

 Here is the one of my very first quilts...also a log cabin!  It is pieced, then tied with extra  loft polyester batting and a sheet is the backing....hee hee!!  Around 1989...and everything had to match.  My oh my, how I have changed, LOL!!!  This quilt had been used almost to shreds.

 Then...I have, through the years, cut out tons of log cabin quilts!  They are all organized and ready to sew...and most have a sample block sewn, so I remember what I was thinking of at the time...

 Another one of those kits I made for myself...

 and currently!!!  These strips are all 1 and 1/4 inch wide...and I am making log cabin blocks from them...darks and lights, here.

I have red centers, and one light sewn on now...onward!!!

So!  Gather your strips and scraps, cut them to the width of the logs that you desire in your quilt...and let's go!!  You know you have lots of strings and scraps you want to use up...and this is pretty mindless sewing and just plain fun!!!  Pinterest is an endless source of inspiration for log cabin quilts, and also if you Google images of log cabin quilts, there are lots and lots!

Swap quilt!!

More Littlies!!

 I have been playing with mitering corners, and small flower quilts, for the wall...well, someones wall, anyway.  Above it one with just plain fabric as the border.

 Hers is my quilted and finished example, with a string border.  My husband likes the one above, much, much better.  I think that the first is more formal, and the second?  Is more like me!  Kinda off kilter and a bit wild looking!  I have enjoyed them both, and plan to hand quilt the first one, much like the second.

 Just some leftover pieces and parts...and I made this block.  It will be a candle mat, or something...

  A little red heart quilt that I found, quite unfinished, in a stack of small quilts...so I put it in my busy bag, to take with me when I find myself in a waiting room, or with a few moments to spare...

 Some gorgeous Mother's day flowers!  Thank you so much, dear son and dear DIL!!

And speaking of mothers...here is mine. I love you, Momma!!  Gone since I was 12 years old, I have felt like an orphan since then...any of you have that experience??

Whew!! The center is complete!

 Tumolo Trails is complete!  All sewn together, at least the center is.  Whoop!!

Estate sale goodies

 I had an opportunity to go to an estate sale today.  A lady is 95 years old; never married, no children, and a quilter and antique dealer all her life.  She had to go into assisted living recently, so hired a team to clear and sell all the items and antiques in her home.  Earlier in the sale, there were hundred + quilts and quilt tops for sale, from the pictures. Almost all were gone, but I found this one today.

 It is a snowball variation, right?  It is completely hand pieced.  Not too old, based on some of the fabrics, and the back is  meticulously pressed, every seam in the blocks pressed open. Quite well done. The price?  $9.00.  Crazy, huh?  It was 75% off day, today...off everything, and the house was still full to the rafters.  Lots and lots and lots of Haviland china and sterling silver.

 This chair is old, old, and quite small.  $16.00 for it...

 And this is a butter press!  She had tons of these...and I loved this one, so got it too.

 $4.00 for it.

And I also got this, which I do not know what it is, but I liked it anyway...it is hand carved.  $1.00.  Does it have something to do with tatting??


Dear husband got a solid silver pot for $4.00.  Ridiculously low.  It says on the bottom, "Sterling silver"


All these prices are mentioned, because it was just so sad to see all her life's collections and treasures going for almost nothing.  She had entire rooms full of dolls, and entire rooms full of display cases of china and crystal and what-not.   I guess we should just enjoy each day to the fullest, and use up that quilt fabric, friends!  The fellow that was running the estate sale said that she had a room of fabric, full top to bottom, when they started the sale three days ago!!!  My guess is that some quilters had a wonderful time clearing out that fabric.
