Hand work in the New Year!

I have been thinking of this for a while...mug rugs for the year, one for each month.  Here is my version for January.  I made three of them, and already gave one away...there are three sisters in my family, and each of the girls will receive one.
I have been hand quilting like crazy on this quilt!!!  I am pleased with my progress so far.
I finished the hand quilting in the sashing, and now I am working on quilting the string blocks.  I love hand quilting!

************************Nurse's notes********************************

We have been so slow during the holidays!!  Well….today we made up for it.  Our census went from ten patients to 32, many critical...just in the last 24 hours!  WOW!!!!  I was worried about not getting my work hours, and now it is totally nutty with being called every day to come and work!!!

My challenging patient from late last year came to see us!  He is absolutely, wonderfully recovered.  It truly is a miracle...this is the patient who was totally abusive to us because we would not let him out to smoke during his heart attack. He was in intensive care with us more than a month.   Now?  He stopped smoking and drinking!  He is in cardiac rehab!  He came and brought us all goodies to celebrate him making it!!!  He is grateful and loving toward his family!

SUCCESS...and BLESSINGS!!!

Love the mitten mats, and that is a good idea. Great for gifts and a fun way to practice free motion designs.
The string quilt looks beautiful with the quilting and another great way to use up scraps.

Wow that was a real pick-me-up blog post!
Love seeing your hand quilting.. totally delicious!
And the patient story was a true testament to the power of love and healing... so inspiring that the patient was given a life extension and he used it to change hie life! It's a real life miracle!
And gratitude is in short supply these days, so that he actually came back and said 'thank you'... AMAZING!

The mug mats are adorable. I treasure the mats you sent me several years ago. Happy to hear the man returned to express his gratitude for your exceptional care in the face of abusive behavior.

Those little mug rugs are just adorable. To make mug rugs every month sounds like fun. Looking forward to see what design you will use next.
Hooray for the gentleman's recovery ... and the nurses' recovery too. Wonderful news.
Enjoy the quilting. ;^)

Very cute seasonal mug rugs.
Your hand quilting will be the perfect finish for this colorful string creation.
What a wonderful story about the difficult patient's turnaround, in more ways than one. That has got to feel good!
My Mom spent three days in the hospital after New Year's Day. She fell and got three more compression fractures and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and a leaky valve. But it surprised us all when another PET scan revealed her tumor had actually shrunk, even though the metabolic activity seems to have increased. The doctor told us she will not die of cancer, but probably from a heart issue.

The little mats are adorable! I love the quilting you are doing on the string quilt. Are you using a quilting hoop, or quilting without any kind of hoop or frame? I remember what you said about that patient, and that's quite a turn around. I'll bet his family is astounded and thrilled.

Your mug rugs are so cute and what a wonderful idea to make a new design each month. I love your quilt, so cheerful and pretty. I'm hand quilting a quilt that I started 35 years ago . . . I think it's time to finish it,LOL

Does the man realize how obnoxious he was? I hope that is what he is sorry. So glad he has changed his lifestyle.
Love your little mug rugs!!
