Featherweight!!

My nurse friend Mary asked me if anyone would like to purchase her featherweight sewing machine...and I said, "Yes!!  Me!!"  I bought her this week...her name is Bessie, and the thread doilie was made by Mary's mother.  She purrs...she is amazing and lovely.  I could not wait to unpack her, and here she is on the foyer rug!  Bessie was made on August 19th, 1947...and my birthday is on August 19th, too.  Crazy, huh??
There are lots of goodies to go with Bessie on her journey!!!  A manual, feet, bobbins, bulbs, needles!

I am so blessed, and thank you, Mary, for giving me a chance for Bessie first!  She will be and already is well loved, and has a forever home.

Mary also has an amazing Singer Red eye Treadle machine, in an amazing cabinet.  If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Lucky you! Bessie is in great shape for her age. Wish I could say the same thing about me. But, then, I AM 2 years older ;-)

You are the third person that I know to have bought a Featherweight this month! Two of my garage girl friends each bought one. Have fun with it!

I remember the day that The Duchess (my Featherweight) came to live with us....... It is wonderful that someone as kind as you are gets to have a lovely friend like Bessie. I am sure you will spend many pleasant hours together........

Could Mary's Red Eye be in a drawing room cabinet? I have one and my cabinet looks like the one in the picture here https://www.pinterest.com/pin/420031102723893701/

It is beautiful, Julie!! So happy for you, and the machine! It couldn't have gone to a better home.
I love my featherweight! Is this your first one? I ask because it seems many people collect them. :)
I used to dream of getting a treadle, but I realized I wouldn't have a space for it. I'm sure it will find a good home. Now if your friend had a hand crank--that is what I am hoping for. (We have a lot of power outages.)

Julie this is awesome! You will love the precise straight stitch this machine gives for quilt piecing... it has a wide range of talents... my honey works on featherweights exclusively if you have any questions or issues and wanna ask questions of us... also I know a fw group on fb that is very knowledgeable if you are interested in that ... they have a website with LOTS of vids on how to maintain your machine yourself and how to use all the different feet... your maual tells you a lot but it can be easier sometimes to hear someone tell ing you or see a vid of someone doing it! lol
Congrats to you on finding a fw with your same birthday! Kathi

She’s gorgeous! I remember how excited I was to bring mine home many years ago. Congratulations! Mine has gone to live with someone who loves her even more than I did! Probably much like yours.

Is the Red Eye Treadle very costly? I have no business even inquiring about it, LOL .

You will love sewing on Bessie. BTW, my grandmother (who sewed only on a treadle) was named Bessie.

Love my little featherweight but I don't use her as much as I should. They are wonderful for piecing and a joy to own, enjoy yours.
