These are my Cheri Payne blocks, from her blog. I just decided spontaneously to make these blocks, upon finding her blog!!
Please see her blog here:

The alternate blocks were fun to make too. If you squint, you can see the diagonal pattern. Rosie is there, modeling for your viewing pleasure. She is such a darling, and helps me with everything.
This quilt was given away to a patient today. This is one I made...rail fence, with 1x3 inch finished pieces. The thing is, the patient? Is one of my very best nursing friends. She taught me how to English paper piece, and really got me going into quilting. She has been retired, and is nearing 80 years old. She was playing ping-pong at the senior center, and twisted, fell, and fractured her femur so badly that is required 5 hours of surgery, rods, plates, screws and cable to keep all the pieces in place. Marilyn is a darling, and she is recovering...and she needed a quilt so that she can be snuggled up!! Many months of rehab coming up for her...
Other events today...I was refolding some quilts in the sun room. In there, I keep a very old ivy on a high shelf...I have had it twenty years, and it is huge, with long vines. I tripped over a vine, pulled the whole thing down, shattered the pot on my head of all things, and ended up with the plant and vines trailing down over my head...my hair full of leaves, vines and wet soil. I bet I looked like Medusa with those vines all over... SNORT!!! I yelled for dear husband, but he cannot hear me...so...
I was fine, but it took about an hour to repot the plant and cutting about 8 feet of vines off of it...HUGE haircut for this plant, LOL! Scrubbing up soil and mud and vacuuming and generally trying to get things back in shape...and some of it fell in a basket of scraps, so they were muddy and full of dirt.
Heavens to BETSY!!! Enough for this day, LOL!!!
Have a great day, everyone!!!

Oh, my, Julie. You had quite an adventure with the ivy! I'm glad you didn't suffer serious injury.
Chain blocks make great setting blocks, don't they?
What a lovely gift to the nurse/patient with the femur break. My MIL fell and broke hers a few years ago and it was a long, slow rehab. I'll bet that quilt will bring your friend great comfort.
Oh Julie I am sorry but I was laughing about your accident with your pot plant.......I was picturing my sister Ivy when reading your story! I hope all is well now and you and the quilts didn't get too injured.
How nice you can give something back to your special friend after she got into quilting, sounds like she can do with plenty of comfort.
It's so annoying that a small incident like tripping on some ivy means loads of cleaning up!
Your quilts are just beautiful! I had no need to squint to see the diagonal pattern, it shows up wonderfully. so sorry to hear about the plant mishap, what a mess to deal with!Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Marilyn, too.
Sorry about your mishap, but still chuckling at the Medusa image in my mind.
I can so identify with your ivy accident. I'll spare you the details but that was my day, too. The good news is that you gave a beautiful gift to a wonderful friend who really is having a harder time than our little problems. You are an inspiration!
Oh my goodness! You could have ended up in the same room with your nurse friend!! How sweet of you to gift her the pretty quilt. Your Cheri Payne quilt is amazing!!
How I would like to be playing ping pong at 80! Sorry that your friend had the accident. I am sure your quilt cheered her.
Sorry you had such a mess to clean up, but glad you didn't do any permanent damage to yourself and to the plant. The rail fence will definitely cheer up your friend and it appears you had some cheerful moments working on and finishing the quilt design from Cheri.
Sorry to hear of your plant incident but your quilt finishes look very nice indeed :)
I found out yesterday that my 81 year old uncle fell, and broke his femur, just below the hip. He has rods in it, and starts rehab today. I'd have loved to see a picture of you as a ivy head;) Another reason I don't do plants (besides that I kill them).
Lovely quilt of comfort for your dear friend. I hope she heals up quickly.
And I'm so glad you had no head injury from your ivy entanglement! Yikes, that must have hurt!
P.S. Your Cheri sampler blocks look absolutely wonderful. I love that setting!
Wishing Marilyn all the best - a speedy recovery and a tolerable and successful rehab.
So sweet of you to give such a special quilt to a special friend! Thank goodness, your ivy was in dirt, not water like I keep mine in the house. Did you put the long ivy runners in water to root and start a new pot with dirt for your porch? ---"Love"
You know, miss nurse, that little accidents like that can be very serious!! I'm glad you didn't get hurt!
What a great use of a quilt to give to your friend!
And I love what you did with Cheri's patterns! Adorable!!
Oh my gosh! I'm glad you're ok - not good that it landed on your head! Yikes! But...the quilt is beautiful and I know it will bring lots of comfort to your friend.
Oh my .... that vine crashing down on you is a good lesson to us to make our homes safe to prevent us falling. Glad that you are ok. What a lovely gift to your friend. She will have many hours to look at your fabrics and that will help to take her mind off her accident.
LOL that did not sound like fun, for either of you! But very impressed you broke the pot with your head instead of the otherway around. So glad you are not badly injuried, my sympathies to your friend though with a badly broken leg, playing table tennis of all things, not exactly extreme sport!
Awwww Julie, such a sweet person you are.Such a wonderful gift.As to the vine, I sympathise. I put our Easter decorations away in the cupboard, opened the door and they to fell on my head.Sadly one of the bunnies was smashed.....
And you didn't do a selfie???? So glad you are ok, but what a mess that must have been to clean up, including yourself.
You have a great sense of humor! I am so glad to have this great picture in my head. It might seem rude to laugh at your expense but my sister, my only sibling, died two days ago of a vicious cancer. I was there with her at the hospital as soon as I could get home from traveling elsewhere. So, thank you very much, for sharing this. You gladdened my heart greatly. This tale of yours is the stuff of a good movie!
Beautiful quilts! As for the Medusa incident, I too would have loved a selfie! lol Cheers!
