A Mystery!!

At last!  I have decided what to do about Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville Mystery quilt!!  The logical choice for me?  PLAIDS!!  I really do not have yellows, or oranges, not enough anyway to make an entire quilt, so I chose to substitute some different colors.  I had a biggish piece of orange/rust colored plaid, and some green plaid and I bought the black instead of blue, because the quilt shop had the black, but not enough blue...and the very light yellow/tan is also from the stash.  SO!!  Off I go!  I am caught up with clue number two, which was a very fun clue to piece, by the way!!  So thanks to Bonnie for another fun mystery quilt!!!  I am excited about clue number three, coming up on this Friday.  You can also join in...not too late at all...just go to Quiltville!!  Who knows what the final quilt will look like, but I delight in playing with the little quilt pieces, LOL!
It has been very, very cold and icy here, at least for this part of the country, this whole weekend. All businesses, and even all the churches were closed.  But worst of all, my marathon was cancelled!!  No refunds, as all the proceeds go to charity...but I guess it was worth it if it saved one person from getting hurt on the ice. 25,000 runners were expected.   I was doing the 1/2 marathon, and was so ready!  Oh well...I guess I will keep training and be extra ready for the next one.

I know I am silly at times, but I really worry about the animals outside in such weather.  The cows and horses and sheep, of course, but the little ones too, like this little squirrel I spied in one of our trees yesterday.  He was cuddled up with himself, trying to keep warm! I had to snap his picture... Poor baby...but I saw him frisking around the yard today on the snow, so I guess he made the night OK. Almost all of the birds are gone for the winter, but I saw a red headed woodpecker today, and a few sparrows.  Tough little babies, out in this cold!!

Have a  great day, everyone, and Happy Monday!!  TGIM!!

Will be especially fun to see your mystery quilt come together because you're doing something different :)

Oh! I love your idea for the mystery. I wanted to do it this year but the colors were so bright and I was stuck. Will have to re-think.
I worry about those animals too! We live in a more moderate climate ...most of the time, but it's freezing here too! I think it's going to warm back up a bit by Wednesday. Hang in there squirrels!

Your mystery fabrics look great, Julie! Of course, plaids!! I just realized the other day that of the 5 "Bonnie" patterns I have used, 3 were made with plaid shirts. Seems fitting! : )
Sorry about your marathon. Bummer to be all ramped up for it and not get to do it.
I've been watching the animals on the farm, too. We were 12 below last night and I see horses across the street huddled together--even ones across fences from each other. They are usually moved out of the pastures in this cold, but it isn't usually this cold this early!

We shall see if your guess is correct...I show the same guess so I can remember it, if I ever want to make a quilt like it in the future. ONLY if it isn't the one we use for this Mystery.

Wonder if that little guy got kicked out of the nest?? He surely has a nest in a tree nearby. I actually have a feeder in the backyard, just for the squirrel!! He gives my dog so much free entertainment--I figure we want him to make it through the cold weather. Sorry about the marathon--but they did do it for everyone's safety. You will be ready for the next one. Like your plaids--will show how different the quilt will look with other colors. Keep warm

Fantastic plaid choices....look great together!
PS... the squirrels here survive at minus 30 every year, so don't worry about them!

Precious photo of the squirrel. I agree with Quilter Kathy, he will be fine; after all, he is wearing a fur coat.

Your mystery fabrics are great, and your block looks fabulous!

Your fabric choices are fabulous - will look wonderful, I think.
I'd be worried about the little squirrel too and other small creatures -- although they always seem to make it through the winter.

I'm not far from you in Denton County and my husband and I have enjoyed watching the squirrels and especially birds through this ice we have had. Lots of birds at the feeders, brilliant red cardinals so gorgeous. We have lots of feeders out and they are constantly feeding. Put out some seed and they will come. Also, this year we added a heater to our bird bath so have had many birds coming to it for drinks. Love watching the eastern bluebirds especially and we have 2 bluebird boxes and usually start nesting in March and have 3-4 sets of babies. I've enjoyed the ice days, staying by the fire, sewing some and cooking some. But we don't have to go anywhere. Did have a medical test this morning but not far away and my husband drove me in his 4-wheel drive truck and we made it fine.

Cute pic and good choices on the mystery. I'm a bit behind and I discovered 2/3 thru piecing the second half of the chevrons that I had pieced them just like the first batch! So I am a bit behind but next clue will have me way behind because I will be working the weekend (work in the hospital blood Bank. Maybe I can catch up on my days off.......

I like the fabrics you chose! Very nice together. I also am concerned for all the little critters outside...I feed the birds that winter here in Wisconsin so they don't go hungry.

Plaids are a great choice! Love your colors. Too bad about your marathon--but you're all trained up now :)

I like what you've chosen for the mystery quilt. It is lookin' good so far!
The races they cancelled here will be rescheduled or you will get a free race entrance next year. I think it is not good to keep your $ regardless if it is a charity event or not.
Love the photo!!

Did you find a quick and easy way to do clue number 2? It is vexing me!

Your colors are great looking :0) I'm doing red black green and gold......a Christmas quilt.

I like your interpretation of the colours. I would have changed the choices too if I was doing the mystery. I thought about it, then I saw special templates or rulers and thought no, not for me. Which part of the States do you live in? In Australia we heard of the massive ice storms through the East Coast/ Pennsylvania recently. We've just warmed up this week, after an unusually cool and wet Spring. It finally feels like Summer has arrived.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
