More blocks done...

HI Y'all....I am still working on the nine patch/churn dash blocks...I have 42 of them done, and that is all the nine patches I have from the swap. I think I will make a few more, to make the quilt a little bit bigger. I love seeing all these fun tiny nine patches from all of you...thank you so much, each one of you!!
I got my husband's quilt back from being quilted!! Millie, a local Texas lady quilted this one for me...thank you so much, Millie!! Dear Husband loved it, and he chose a bright red binding to finish it off...I applied it today, and will finish the hand stitching soon.
All the pieces are one inch finished strips...this used up almost all my reproduction stash, between these two projects.

******************Nurse's Notes*******************

The Pioneer spirit!

It has been really terrible weather here...quite cold, and with a skiff of snow and ice on the freeway's it has been tricky for some to get to work. Many nurses stayed overnight for several nights at the hospital, to ensure that there would be round the clock care for the patients. I salute these ladies!! I feel that these ladies really have gumption...you know, a can do attitude!! Due to some nurses not coming to work, this left us very short...very, very short of staff.

I love to see this spirit in people...dignity, hard work, go the extra mile, self reliance...the Pioneer Spirit!!!

Have a great day, all!!

Oh my gosh! I can feel the love!! The church dash and log cabin are to die for!!! Lovely, lovely lovely!

On a side note: I tried to use the word skiff in scrabble once, as a small amount of snow. You will find the definition in the dictionary to be a small boat, but nothing about a small amount of snow or ice.

I also use "skiff" to describe a small amount of snow. ;o)

Great Churn Dash blocks and so much color variety. It's beautiful.

Both of those quilts are great! Your hubby certainly chose the right color for the binding. What pattern did Millie choose to quilt the log cabin with?

Oh, Julie I'm crazy about your churn dash blocks! Perfect use of your nine patches. And, you husband's log cabin quilt is fabulous - I bet he LOVES it. :-)

I agree with you on the nurses! That's the real Spirit.... :)
Love from the Netherlands!
Enjoy your work and your quilting!

Love the churn dash and your log cabin turned out beautiful! Nice work! I had the opportunity to sleep over at a hospital in Massachusetts but chose to drive my VW bug home :-) No one else on the road and the only trouble I had was getting out of the parking lot. The weather improved and I got back there in the morning with less effort. The one nurse who stayed over commented on how she could feel her bed move all night while people walked by. Kind of wonder how anyone gets any rest while they are hospitalized.

I'm loving those blocks! Those will make a very beautiful quilt!

Your log cabin is stunning! Very beautiful. He is one lucky man to get that quilt. I also love that design that she used for quilting. I think it is called "forest floor" I love using it when I quilt, a very nice design and perfect for that quilt.

I love the Churn Dash with the nine patch blocks....I have a bunch of nine patch blocks also...could you tell me what size squares are in your nine patch? In my nine patches I used the 2 1/2 block...that might be too big for the chun dash.

I did not participate in your swap, but I would LOVE to make you a few 9-patch blocks. Just tell me the size of the starting squares and how many you need!

The log cabin is breathtaking. I love using my 1-1/2" strips to make LC Blocks.

Oh my gosh!!!! I love your Churn Dash blocks. WOW. Very very pretty. That's going to be one amazing quilt to go along with all the other amazing quilts you do. Like that log cabin which I really loved when I saw it on Millie's blog. I completely DIG her work. She's great! It's really a pretty quilt my friend. I'm so happy you're doing so much great work. It makes me heart happy!!!

Your Churn dash is really coming along. Do you have any idea how you will set it?
Hubby's quilt is something else, I have a long cabin that needs quilting and I can't decide whether to have someone machine quilt it or to hand quilt it.

I think you have earned a shopping trip to replenish all the fabric you are using up :)
Love the churn dash blocks and your log cabin is so gorgeous! Love the red binding too!
I love that "can do" attitude too and it's very rare to see it these days. I think you should make a little mug mat or something for those dedicated staff to reward their dedication! I am just full of ideas to make work for you, eh?!?

The churn dash setting is certainly striking. Will you sash them as well? Not sure what I will do with mine yet. Not sure if blocks from a swap count as a UFO under my rules this year - lol.

Love your log cabin. Of course the DH is pleased with it... all your work is just so charming and heartwarming and cozy...

Both quilts are just gorgeous! You make one heack of a scrap quilt, Julie!

We aren't real accustomed to impassable roads, but we've had our share. But here at our hospital, they try to save empty rooms for staff to sleep--day and night staff both. I tried that a couple of times, and it's hard to sleep here in the daytime. Fortunately, we have a deal with the hotel just down the road, and I like staying there. The folks are friendly, the rooms nice, the price right, and only about a half-mile to work. And the hospital pays half for a single-occupancy room, the whole amount if two people share a room.

All this means no excuses for calling off work when the snow falls, but it's amazing how many people do it anyway.

Your husband must be very happy with his wonderful quilt. And those 9patch/churn dash blocks just keep multiplying. Keep looking for mine in there somewhere but not spotted yet. It is lovely to look at those blocks and know that I helped, in a very small way. Thank you for the story about those wonderful nurses, these are the good news stories we should hear more often.
