The truth and nothin' but the truth!!

This is the layout my dear husband has chosen...he measured the bed and mentioned that it would be really nice if it were a little bigger...how can I refuse his kind request, as nicely as he put it!! I will be making 28 more blocks, and then it will be done!! At least the top...
Now, dear gentle people...I have mentioned that I am the cutting queen! I cut out quilts when I can't sleep, and arrange them very neatly in kits, with the pattern and all the pieces and parts... for someday. Someday is here!!! I am working on these, my UFO's this coming year. I am naming these...and sadly, some have been cut out for so long, when I used to not put instructions in each bin, that I have forgotten what in the Sam Hill I was doing with that idea in the first place!! Don't bother to read this list below...it is really just to keep it all real, for me. I bet you recognize some of the kits and works in progress, though!!

  1. Blue hospital gown star quilt
  2. 1930's stars
  3. Red Star-Pam
  4. Jewel Box
  5. ????? Sadly, I don't remember what this was to be....
  6. Bright nine patches and connector squares quilt
  7. Judy's fall leaf quilt
  8. ?????????????????Don't remember this one either...I am releasing the fabric back to the stash
  9. Large Flying Geese quilt
  10. Pineapple-red and black variation
  11. Current Quiltville Mystery (this one is first!)
  12. Paper pieced pineapples
  13. Scrappy quilt
  14. Wedding signature quilt (must finish stat!)
  15. Sandy's quilt as you go
  16. Judy's bright star quilt
  17. Rail fence
  18. Pineapple wool table runner
  19. Plaids stars (idea from the state fair)
  20. 5 inch blue stars
  21. Jewel box (why do I have two of these cut out?)
  22. Bonnie scrap quilt
  23. Sylvia's Bridal Sampler
  24. 1930's nine patch
  25. Patriotic strings
  26. Peaches and cream quilt (Judy)
  27. Quiltville mystery from last year( all blocks made, just need to set them together)

So there it is!! I also have a total of 25 quilt tops, altogether, done and ready to quilt, most with backings and bindings ready.

This may seem like a daunting task, but I can be proud to say...this has been an enormous lot of work, and one of great love for my family to have some quilts to pass on when I am gone. Most of the kits would be fine for anyone else to pick up and start sewing...so not a waste for a quilting group someday if I don't get it all done.
An example of a kitted quilt...all the parts cut out, a sample block, and extra fabric tucked in with the pattern, just in case.
I got another Christmas gift...from Lyn at Bluebird quilts....she made a fabulous handmade quilt and ornament, and apples (they smell terrific), and some fabric for the Dear Jane quilt!

OH YES!! The Dear Jane quilt is on the list too for this year!! I really want to make some real progress on this one!!

So....how is that for real...real enough for you?

Grins!!!

Have a great day,

Julie

Your log cabin quilt top is a beauty and I can see why hubby would love snuggling up with you under it....just a wee bigger he says....aren't they too much?! Love it!!
WOW...quite the list of quilts to make and quilt tops finished! Just seeing all those little boxes to stitch up seems overwhelming to me but then I sit here and look at the tops I have to quilt and realize...that is ALOT of work too...but oh so enjoyable. Have fun!!

Much too real for me ;) Totally believable, because you..most amazing woman...are the one showing all of these..but Sam Hill, indeed! That man sure seems to get around. I think he must be kind of like Johnny Appleseed. Ooh, and love the apples, the quilt, the gingerbread man, and oh, my stars...the bundle of fabric. Lovely!

Holy Smokes, what beauties you have just waiting to grow up into real quilts!! Looks like you are going to have a great year. Can't wait to see all these come to life. Just beautiful.

I like the setting your husband chose. You rock with all those kits. That is such a great idea. You can just grab a kit and sew a little or a lot. Good luck on all your goals for 2011! I am glad we all get to come along and watch you succeed!

Wow girlie! You are super organized! I get so bored of cutting that I usually cut as I go! You are going to have so much fun diving into that big stack of UFOs!

Awesome, awesome, awesome....I mean, sure, the organization, the list, the anticipation...but what I really mean is that I AM NOT ALONE!!! LOL I love that you "released the fabric back into the stash!" LOL I totally relate! (I've also been known to release UFO's to ebay! :-D) Great projects lined up -- fabulous log cabin (I'm jealous! Have one -- you guessed it, cut out!!), and I can't wait to see them all completed in 2011 (or as time allows). :-D
Blessings,
Mary Lou

Your new machine will be smokin'!
Good work getting all those kits together. I hope Bernadette keeps you inspired enough to not cut out more kits when you can't sleep :-)
It's going to be a beautiful year of quilts!

WOW!!! I admire your ability to do this! I love your new log cabin and your Husband sounds so sweet, he must really love that quilt!
I really love the header quilt with the plaids too!
Sounds like you are going to be one busy quilter for the new year! Can't wait to see them finished!

Good Luck! I too am hoping to finish all my UFO's in 2011. It's my top priority on my sewing list. You go girl! I am new to your blog and LOVE the quilt in your header. Fantastic!

Laura said...

Wow! While I have a list of my UFOs, yours are much more organized than mine. Looks like you are all ready to sew, sew, sew in 2011!

That's a gorgeous log cabin - it's so nice when loved ones appreciate what you do! Good luck to you making progress on your quilt list - I'm sure you can do it. I like the kit idea and making a sample block. I often pull out fabric and then just a month later I don't remember what I was thinking!

Love the organization and know that you are not alone on this journey! I am anxious to see your progress.

I too, have made my lists. I think the 2 for 1 is a great idea. Let's face it, we will start new things, thats what keeps our juices flowing. Love the Log Cabin, it's going to be gorgeous.

Great UFOs in that pile. I zoomed in and enjoyed the show. I also like the feel of the fabrics used in your log cabin quilt.

Still loving the log cabin, just saying;oD
It must be that time of year I have written myself a list too, though I feel slightly better now that I've seen yours, mines not quite so daunting but yours look like sew much fun and organised! I am posting 5 projects at a time on my blog and will try and work through them all throughout the year, it doesn't seem quite so daunting that way!

OMG Julie, on Christmas night and the Sunday afterward, I cut out 10 kits from my stash of fabrics. I have another 5 or so to cut out also...at least when you get ready to sew, you have a kit close at hand!

That's a lot of kits!

I'm breathless after reading your list. It has, however, inspired me to bring out all my UFO's, re-box them with the patterns and get started on finishing some for 2011. It will be a close one as there are so many new fabric lines available and I want to use all of them.
Wishing you good luck on starting some of those quilt kits and also sharing with us the end result.

Oh my, Julie---that looks like a big undertaking when you see them all spread out on the floor like that! Still, I know you will to your best to see this through. The log cabin is wonderful and I think that is my fav way to arrange them if you have the right number of blocks to do it. Soon enough you will have more.

I have done that same thing with the kits---no copy of the magazine or EQ printout in the bag/bin/box and I don't have a clue where it was headed but I think I can fake it or try something else with some of them.

Hi Julie---you amaze me!!! what a list you have there!!!So tomorrow I will go to my sewing room and get out my "starts" and "tops" and list them and we will see "who" is Queen then!!!! want to do this anyways--so you have just "push" me to on!!!!
I wonder if we will have time to eat, sleep, and do housework this next year?????
Hugs, di and miss gracie

That many finished tops is quite an accomplishment!! I have almost that many "unfinished" tops. I am in hopes of reducing that amount by the end of the year.

I'm loving seeing your organization. Read some back post, are you doing better health wise? Still haven't counted my UFO's, but am working on getting them in order. Yes, 2011 is the year to get caught up. Planning to start BHM any day now.

Alycia said...

Wow - that is so organized! I love how you have everything all together. Happy Sewing!

Sharon said...

Love the setting your husband decided on. Your kits remind me of my boxes in my closet...I did not count them. And I hesitate to count the tops that are ready to be quilted...you know what they say...so many quilts, so little time. Have fun!

KaHolly said...

WOW! I admire how organized you are.

Finn said...

Well Julie, I can say "YES", it is very REAL!!!! I don't think I am brave enough to follow your example however. Altho it is a brain teaser, wondering...wondering...? I have no doubt you can work your usual magic and get each one finished to your satifaction.
I've discovered that my biggest fault lies in the "starting new ones". I've managed to avoid that the past few months as my sewing mojo had grown back like a too short hair cut! Maybe there really is a finish line in sight?? Maybe? Big hugs, Finnie

Pat said...

Oh, gosh...and double WOW....that is one heck of a list!!! I really need to tame my UFO's. AND...I need to get back to my Sylvia's Bridal Sampler, too....I have next to nothing done on it. *sigh* Love your log cabin quilt!!!

Laurel H. said...

Wow! If you haven't already, you should join the Yahoo group Stashbusters. They have a UFO challenge, to encourage you to finish as many of your unfinished quilts as possible. Also, Judy L. on her blog Patchwork Times is having a UFO challenge, as well. They really help!

Oh my goodness...you are brave to fess up to (and name!) such a long list of UFO's! Wow! Good luck tackling them in 2011. I am hoping for lots of progress this year too.
Love hubby's new quilt!

I love the setting your hubby picked out and 28 more blocks is not too many!!

OK, you really are the cutting queen! At least it is organized and ready to go. Are you still happy with all of the projects you've started? If you finished 2 a month you'd be done by the end of 2011;)

Sheila said...

WOW Julie , you havin an amazing number of quilts made and in progress . Best of luck to you in finishing them in 2011 I think you are capable , the log cabin quilt is really amazing !

Love the layout of the log cabin quilt! I'm in awe of all those kits cut out and ready to go! I have various fabrics grouped together as my "kits" but having them cut out with the pattern is definitely the way to go! Thanks for sharing because now I think I'll at least get some of them together and ready to go.

WOW! That is truly alot! Just today I got some Sunkissed by Moda in the mail and the hubby gingerly asked "How many projects do you have going?" Frankly, not as many as you do, but enough to keep me happy! If they would just stop making such nice fabric!

Wow, I said WOW! Your UFO list is daunting, but I know you can do it~

9patchnurse said...

Wow! I mean...... WOW!!!!!! That is seriously real. I love how organized you are. UFO's can really weigh us down, I made a medium dent in mine this past year. My friends and I also swapped a bunch, that was fun except I didn't finish any that I got. Hmmm, maybe not a good idea. Your log cabin is wonderful and you are good cuz I would have just slapped a border on it.

Oh yes, I love that log cabin quilt! It does need to be big enough for your bed!

Julie, I love the quilt your husband wants! I think my hubby would love it too. Can't wait to see it bigger and better. Happy New Year. AND by the way, I have a new friend thanks to you. Lisa, a quilting nurse/blogger who also works at Hopkins contacted me thanks to your blog! Steph

Two jewel box quilts? I have one, too. Maybe we should start a club, or at least cheer each other on.

Floss said...

I think your husband did a great job picking the setting, hopefully the extra blocks won't be too much work.
Good luck on working on thoes UFO, I find cutting hard, quite often I get part way into a quilt to find that I hadn't finished the cutting so have switch back to it. I am impressed that you have that much cut.

Hello Julie, You are remarkable! I am so behind! I don't no if I will every catch up.

Congrats on working on UFOs but allow yourself to start something new also along the way. That will inspire you and keep yourself working.

Sadly I know how you feel. I cut out a quilt at the beginning of 2010. I had the pattern with the container that held all the cut fabric. We bought a different house and in the moving process the pattern book got separated from the fabric container. After organizing all my fabric I cannot for the life of me remember or find the pattern book to go with the cut fabric. I learned a hard lesson. From now on I will label my containers of cut fabric with the name of the pattern, the name of the book and page number. I have spent many hours looking through my quilt books looking the pattern.

Yeah for you - I'm so impressed that you told the whole truth! You have so many lovely projects. Think I'm too scared to count mine. And, I'm so glad that you'll be stitching them up with joy in the New Year!

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
