Famous Last Words

The tree...that missed dear husband's car by mere feet. So thankful that the tree did not come through the house!
Another tree came down on our street, view up in the middle of the picture.
Neighbors coming together to help clean up the damaged tree.
Well, remember when I said that the last thing I had to worry about was dear husband getting home safe, then it was all fun, fun, fun? Hmmm, about 2 hours after that on last Thursday, the electricity went out. We got record snow fall here and took out power for > 275,000 homes, and ours was one of them. The snow was so heavy that it toppled trees and huge limbs. One of our trees came down as you can see. We had a lovely time cleaning it all up. Neighbors we had never gotten to meet before showed up and brought chain saws and manpower, so it was pretty quick to clean up. But, we had no power for 4 days. Brrrrr!!! We toughed it out, but it was not fun to stay in the house when it was only 35-40 degrees in the house. Dear husband...I must brag a little, he was the hero. He hooked up the generator to the house power and we had hot water and lights. No heat, but I can tell you, that hot water was just heavenly! Best Valentine I ever got!!
More on the blue and yellow...the Lone Star block was made with templates and set in squares. Not easy for me. The sunflower still has to be appliqued down to the background...it is pieced, curved piecing, not applique for the blue and yellow background. It was hard for me too. From here on in, it should be downhill. I loved working on these blocks today. I feel that I learned a lot, and improved my piecing skills tremendously. Especially learned not to stretch those bias edges on the Lone Star diamonds!

Have a wonderful day!

Gratitude's:

HOT Water!
Heat
Electricity
Dear Husband most of all.
A dear son who celebrated his birthday in Canada at the Olympics this weekend.

Gotta love the hot water. We had no electricity in Missouri for ten day and had to take cold baths...it was horrible. Glad all is well and love your blue and yellow!!

Being without power is no fun...but like you say being thankful for what you have...hot water and a wonderful husband...aren't you glad these snow storms don't come around very often.

oh boy, the good and the bad. Glad the trees missed your car and house. We lose power around here a little too often from the trees coming down and I'm extremely grateful for our generator. That was a COLD house. I hope you've warmed up well.

Lots of excitement for you. Glad you made it through - stronger than ever... lol.

Love the wedding quilt - what a great idea. Will preserve so many memories...

You are on the home run now with your blue and yellow monster - the blocks are just looking great! The Lone Star block (aka LeMoyne Star?) is one of my favourites.

Hugs - Shari

PS Congrats on the 3lbs. I know how hard it is...

So glad you are all safe and sound there.
Seems like you are doing some winter camping!
And even so, you're still making great progress on the sampler quilt!

Glad to know you are all okay. No power in those temperatures is not good so well done Hubby!

It takes an event like that to make us realise how much we take for granted most of the time.
Neighbours all helping - that's how it should be!!

I am so sorry you had no power for all those days...but glad you had a generator to help out a bit. I understand your fear of the trees since we had one come down on our house in the summer, as you probably recall, doing $30,000 worth of damage! How wonderful that your son got to celebrate his b'day at the Olympics!!! What events is he getting to see there?

Reminds me of when the hurricane hit here. Two weeks without electricity makes you enjoy the simple things. Stay warm!

I've never had to be without power for more than eight hours--and never in snowy, cold weather! Glad your hubby was able to give you both hot water and lights.

Your quilt blocks look great! You should be proud of stretching your skills :)

Oh my...such wet, heavy snow! I know that sounds peculiar...but ours is so dry that it makes noises as you walk on it. I hope that is the last of your woes from the snow and ice! So glad you're safe...and such a trooper!

The newly weds are in Vancouver?! Awesome!!! It looks like a fascinating city, even if one wasn't interested in the Olympics.

Hugs to you, Jules!

So glad all is okay now at your house! I dread losing power, as we won't have water, heat, or lights when that happens. Hubby wants to get a generator, and we probably will do that this summer, once we've paid off a credit card and the prices go down. Every time the lights flicker, I go fill the tub with water!

So glad you made it through the storm and power outage all right! Your blue and yellow sampler is lovely--it's good to step out of our box every now and then, isn't it? Good job!

I suppose from the bad (tree falling down) there is always something positive (meeting the neighbours). Love your new blocks, especially the flower but boy, a lot of work.

Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now. Keep it up!
And according to this article, I totally agree with your opinion, but only this time! :)

Just found your blog and love it! Happy that no one was hurt or that you didn't suffer any damage in that terrible storm.
Your quilt is going to be gorgeous and I love the quilt in your header!

I am so late reading this post. I am glad you are well and have heat once again. Loosing power and heat is always my biggest fear in these bad storms. Lucky you with a generator! You need to get an electric blanket for next time. I can't live without mine! Hugs!

I just have to say I love your quilt in the heading photo. What is the pattern?

I visit sometimes just to look at it.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
