Plaid Progress

Hi everyone!! Please let me introduce Abby Sue!! Abby is my DDIL and DS's dog...isn't she a cutie?
A little blurry, and you can just see the leg of their big dog, Bella. As you can see, Bella towers over Abby, and they are the best of friends. They are both so much fun, and guess what...they were here for a visit this weekend! They brought our DS and DIL too, and we had a marvelous time! Eating and visiting and giggling and riding bikes and hula-hooping and (don't ask...or do)! What a fun weekend! (Have you ever hula-hooped?) Great fun!!

Today, after the kids had gone and the house was still relatively clean, I worked on the plaid quilt. I figured I would do the cornerstone nine-patches and the sashing first, so then all the leftover strips would be used in the string blocks.
The nine-patches finish at 3 inches, and the sashing is 6 inches.

Some of the strings left over...I think I will have to cut more. I am loving all these different colors! Who knew I had all these different plaids lurking in the back of the closet, just waiting for their chance to spring onto the scene and make their mark!
Hope you had a super great weekend too, to each one of you. Back to work tomorrow for me!!

Do you have a system or way that you keep your home clean? I would really value and treasure your input!!
Sincerely, JulieK

Good Morning Julie, looks like you were able to do quite a bit of sewing on your Plaid Quilt.....I normally tidy up before I go to bed.......sweep the floors....straighten cushions and rugs........clean around the sink...stray glasses and such....put the rubbish out....I have a mini vacuum cleaner to pick up stray bits on the carpet....I normally clean the house each week...but when Jess was in hospital I was able to miss a week.....hope that makes sense...hugs lyn

The dog is cute!!! Nice progress so far on the quilt.....as for the housecleaning, I'm going to keep checking here and take notes on what other people do, because I don't seem to have a workable system! So far, bluebird-lyn had a nice idea...let's see how many others we can get!!! LOL

I love the quilt on your header. That is my type of quilt, although I haven't actually done one like it.

I have a system although it doesn't work as good as it should. I cleaned like a fool for the first 17 years of my marriage. Then I told my husband that it is his turn. Eight years later I don't think he has cleaned anywhere near as much as I did in 1year. He doesn't see the dust and dirt the way I do. I usually end up cleaning again after him when he isn't around and I always compliment him on his cleaning. Our house isn't as clean as it used to be but that was also before I took up quilting. Now I don't really mind a little mess. I just go and sew!

You've got a good start on the plaid project. I'm tempted to join you, but not right now ... too many other projects on the go ... as usual!

Great start on your plaid quilt - and to think it was just an idea just a few short weeks ago!
I have figured out how to get the housework done...I invite friends over every week or two and then clean like crazy the day before. Then I'm good to go for another couple of weeks. That's been the only way to get me out of the sewing room! Good Luck!

Sounds like you are having too much fun...with family and with quilting! Love the plaid blocks!
I don't have a system for housekeeping. I do everything when it begins to bother me. Usually we do a more thorough cleaning on the weekend, with laundry done whenever it piles up, and other jobs like window cleaning, etc when I notice that it should be done. But I hate every minute of cleaning :)

A lot of the "mess" of a house is just clutter that didn't get put back where it goes, like newspapers that should be in the recycle bin, or papers left out on a desk, or pillows and slipcovers that need straightening. I usually do a zoom through the house before I turn in and catch all these things that look so messy, and round up any coffee cups, dishes or drinking glasses that need to go in the dishwasher (it seems there's always one on my husband's desk). That way, everything looks tidy on the surface. It's disheartening to get up and face a messy house. And I will sweep and mop but I hate to dust. That job gets left until it's unavoidable.

Love your plaid work in progress - it's so cheerful.

BTW - cute dog!

Looks like plaids have wormed their way into your sewing basket too - such fun, and yes you're right it's amazing when you get them all together the variety of colours

You have some great plaid fabrics there! I wish I had a good system in place for my house cleaning, but alas, I don't. :-(

Your plaid strings is so much fun . My system is Monday is laundry and clean the bathroom day, vac daily, 5- minute pick up each night to get the stray shoes or toys, the kids have their chores like garbage out and dishwasher. I feed the cats. This works for us.

Lots of things going on!

Good morning, or evening to you!!!  I have been sewing pouches of different sizes, and I enjoy filling them with different things and giftin...
