Good morning to everyone! I hope this finds you safe and happy, today! Back in January, one of our local quilters wanted to swap blue, 8 inch blocks, for a sampler quilt. We started in on this, making 11 of the same block to swap with 11 different quilters...then? Covid hit! I have not seen these ladies since January! Anyway, I delivered all my blocks, made and ready, to the doorstep of my quilting friend, and she left the blocks that she had made at the end of the walk. Properly socially distanced, you know!!! Here is what I received, plus the blocks I have made. I think this will be very pretty!! I still have more blocks to receive.
How would you set these blocks together, if it were your quilt?
I am having trouble receiving comments, on Gmail. Some I do, and some just disappear into the Netherlands. Why?? If you know, I would love to know the answer! I want each of you to know, I so much appreciate you, and your taking a moment to comment. Thank you!
******************************Nurse's notes************************
Covid is getting so much worse, subjectively, and objectively, by the numbers! I pray for a good effective and safe vaccine to help eradicate this mess. I will be required to get this vaccine, first wave. Another one of our doctors became gravely ill with Covid and spent a week in the ICU. He is getting slowly better now, and his wife is now in ICU. They have little children, too. Many of my co-workers have been ill or are ill now. I scrub and mask and try and not breath at my work...my hands look like hamburger meat. I do not go into the break room or congregate with anyone. I do not use the elevators used to transfer covid patients. We text each other from one nursing hall to the other hall! I take the hottest showers in the world, morning and night, and scrub with hibiclens...wash all my uniforms with bleach...they look tattered, by the way! Scrub all my surfaces with bleach and comet....Scrub out my nostrils with Nozin! (alcohol)
Goodness! I will be glad when this is more in control!
Some of the people are saying they are going to have huge Thanksgiving celebrations, anyway...we are not. I just took an old lady, dead from covid, to the morgue, last time I worked! You know what? Her family had a big birthday party with 35 family members...and EVERY SINGLE PERSON THERE contracted covid! It is just not worth the death of someone, and illness of others, to me...
Stay safe!

Hugs to all from Julie

Your blocks look so beautiful! I'm glad you were able to continue your swap.
Still praying for you and for better judgement to show up in so many foolish people. Still seeing large groups of people showing up here to vacation. Thanksgiving weekend is going to be scary. This whole virus isn't a problem it seems until it hits your family :-/
Hi Julie--I think and pray for you often--
I love your blue blocks--a bit of cheer in such a sad time--
I have not been in a Walmart store since March 1st--just online shopping for them--but there is some little things I need that they won't ship--so my girl friend and I are planning to go there at 7am on Monday to do some shopping--before the holiday shopping gets too bad--but I am still scared to do even that--so we will see????? I am in a high risk group as is my girl friend--good thing I love to quilt--or I would be going 'crazier' these days!!!
Bless you for all your nursing work--
luv, di
some people are just plain careless...maryland numbers are ballooning...gonna be a very quiet turkey day but at least we are alive...
People will continue to do such stupid things despite all the evidence to the contrary. Just because you are related to someone, if that person DOES NOT DWELL WITH YOU, then that person is an outsider.....You might check some of the group projects (sew-alongs) that Pat Sloan has coordinated. Your blocks remind me of hers. With her expertise they fit together so well. (If it were up to me, I'd use sashing and cornerstones. Hmmm. Maybe a "ribbon" sashing.
(Here's one I did long ago: https://withstringsattached.blogspot.com/2009/11/twilight-sampler.html)
In Washington state our Governor and his wife pleaded with us to ONLY have members of our household present for the holiday celebrations. That means not your children and grandchildren who are not part of your daily lives. Imagine the impact we could have if we showed restraint and the love these holidays represent by observing this for the entire holiday season. So many more of us might live to see the new year.
We are not having anyone over for Thanksgiving and we are not going anywhere else. We have had COVID but feel like it's important to follow all the guidelines. It protects us from further exposure (some people have caught it twice) and prevents us from being the place where it gets spread. We'll be able to celebrate in the future and what a celebration that will be!!! On the other side of the coin, my granddaughter showed up for a visit. I haven't seen her in 5 years and she brought her boyfriend to meet our side of the family. What do you do?
Blue and white quilts are so pretty, and your blocks are going to make a lovely quilt. COVID numbers are surging here. I told my great-niece this morning I would be staying home for Thanksgiving, and I told my sister the same about Christmas. I don’t want to be the one responsible for taking COVID to the gatherings, and I didn’t want to bring it home with me. I told my pastor I will not be in church (a spoken service with only three attendees) until the numbers are reduced and stable.
Your swap quilt is beautiful. I would add narrow sashing strips.
My husband and I will spend Thanksgiving and Christmas without our kids. We are eager for a vaccine, but until then, we are being wise.
Lovely blocks. I agree with dashing these. I always find slightly differing sizes on swap blocks. Sad that Covid is robbing us of yet another important celebration. Stay safe.
Thank you for the Health warnings, esp. about crowds. I also, am doing my best, stayinghome, masking when grocery shopping, no gatherings, but some sewig with friends, at distance, no closeness, no sharing of food, hugs, or space. Hang in there. what would we do without you? Thank you for your dedication!
Love your blue and white swap blocks Julie take good care and stay safe
You are right! Upon completion, your blue sampler quilt is going to be absolutely gorgeous. Julie, I can’t wrap my brain around people ignoring the virus. Just last night, a neighbor had a backyard (and indoor) gathering of at least 30. And he’s our mailman! Makes me want to quarantine my mail before I open it!
Blue and white, the perfect combo! Stay safe and thank you for the reminder of this horrible situation.
Love those blocks, I would alternate them with Country Lanes blocks in scrappy blues...
Always love blue and white, red and white, green and white...anything with white really! LOL What we don't know about COVID is whether there are recurrent COVID possibilities as there are with polio and chicken pox/shingles...so we don't want to even get sick. There is NO WAY we are going anywhere for Thanksgiving. Well, I am leaving the homemade pies for my siblings in their garages...and picking up my bean casserole to cook at my home. that way we are "doing" the holiday together... so we can all be together next year. I think the time I am having at home with my husband and kids is a gift I can never get again. I am thankful to have it.
I'd put sashing between all the blocks. That way they can all be seen easier. The president of my little quilt guild wants to have our Holiday party inside this year. If so, I'm not going. My son and his wife and our 2 grandkids are coming for Christmas, and I'm not taking any chances. I'm also a home healthcare worker, and I work with a high risk client (only one client, thank goodness). I have to stay safe for him, too. Thanksgiving will just be the 3 of us. Stay safe!
Love those blue blocks - they will be fun to work with - and maybe relax you a bit. Your covid stories just make me cringe! I am So SO sorry!!! and the taking care of yourself becomes a priority!! you better stay healthy!!!
I really appreciate your frontline honest Covid updates, keeps things real in a horror story kind of way. It reassures me that the precautions I contuse to take are sensible, not hypochondriacal. Bless you, may you stay safe and well.
love
lizzy
Thank you Julie for your hard work and all that scrubbing to take care of yourself!
I'm sorry it is all getting worse where you are again. I feel fortunate to live in the country.
Love your blue and white sampler blocks!!
