Happy Monday!

Good Morning!!  I worked the weekend, so I am off today.  Had some pretty sick patients at the hospital, and not quite enough of me to go around, LOL!!  So...today is house keeping, and cooking for the week, and of course a little quilting!  Above is a quilt top I made some time (years) ago.  It is made entirely of shirts from the thrift store, except for the border.  Last night, I layered it and pinned it for quilting.  I am in love with Rose Cream batting by Mountain Mist.  It has a wonderful old fashioned drape and needles easily and is so, so soft!!  So that is what I used...and it was on sale one day at Joann's, so I bought three of the batting packages.  I do love their coupons!
I know you are tired of seeing this quilt, but here it is again.  The top portion is all sewn together, with my changed, my own personal stamp on Jeni's idea. Can't wait to work on the next portions as they come available!!  Go see Jeni's blog...and you can make this quilt too...for free!  She is offering all these fun applique blocks freely for all of us.
Hey, guess what??  I started a new project!!  I know you must be shocked, right?  I love Pumpkin seed blocks, and have been admired Kathy's for years.  so.....I decided to go for it!  I have cut out a zillion red pumpkin seeds, and am appliqueing them onto backgrounds.  This will be the perfect take along project for the busy bag!  Please, oh please go see Kathy's blog if you have never visited...she is a fab quilter!

********************************The Weather...***********************************

Here in Texas, it rains ice balls.  Truly, that is what is falling from the sky!!  Crazy, huh...but what this means is that the electricity is going to be going out.  As the lines and trees get heavier and heavier with ice, inevitably the lines get snapped somewhere along the route.  So...I am trying to do everything I can think of that uses electricity...before it goes out!  So the laundry is done...the vacuuming is done...the dinner is made...and this post...is done!!!

*****************************************************************************

Have a great Monday, everyone!!

Julie

Kathy has tempted me with her Pumpkin Seed blocks ... they're on my list.

Praying that you won't lose power ... stay safe.

Wonderful thrift store rail fence. Maybe I will make one someday. : )
I was looking at that batting the other day and wondering about it. With your endorsement, I think I will give it a try.
Are you kidding? Will never tire of those happy applique blocks.
Kathy has so many projects that have tempted me for years, but I try to resist, as I make such little progress on what I already have going.
You are ahead of the game. Now if the power goes out you can stitch down pumpkin seeds! : )

I'm hoping the power doesn't go out as I'll probably have to go to a hotel. I'd FREEZE!!! Love the red seeds!

All those shirt plaids. You did well using them. Would make a good quilt for a man.

I have been tempted by those pumpkin seeds too but am going to resist.

When I expect the power to go off, I fill the bathtub with water, so I can use the water to flush the toilet. It's a trick I learned while living on the farm. ;o)

Love all of your projects.

Who said we were tired of seeing that quilt. I ♥ to see the progress on that quilt. Don't tempt me into starting a pumpkin seed quilt!! I too have been eyeing Kathy's seeds for a long time and it is calling me. But first I have to finish Rose Dream quilt. I will enjoy watching yours grow though, that's for sure. Sending prayers for you to be safe.

My husband laughs and says that I don't have to worry about electricity since I use a treadle. LOL I'm surprised our electricity has not gone out in MO, we got the yucky weather last week. TX was actually on our news today.

Love seeing your progress on the applique blocks.

You're in my thoughts and prayers through this horrible weather. Stay warm, dry and drive carefully.

I'm always amazed with all that you accomplish and work like you do. I love your quilt made with the shirts. I have a medium tote full that I have cut but I keep planning on going through hubby's closet. :)

I am in love with your pumpkin seeds!!! Just what I need....another project! LOL!

What appliqué method do you use for your pumpkin seeds. I've been cutting 5" squares but haven't done any appliqué yet.

Dear Julie,
this was another one of your lovely post, you should write books, so sad when your stories are over.
Did the electricity go out?
Greetings,
Sylvia

What a wonderfully varied group of projects! The rail fence looks so cozy and, hooray, it's closer to being a Finished Object. The quilt-along/sampler is very appealing. I'll have to look up the site. And, oh, those pumpkin seeds! Are you going to make all one color, or go for a variation? (Thinking of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge....)

I love your tops! And the rail fence using recycled shirts is fabulous!

Glad you weren't in that plane that slid off the runway at DFW. Thanks goodness, we don't have ice or snow (only leftover snow), but, if I had my druthers, I'd take snow over ice any day. Stay warm (and off the roads).

Love your quilt and thanks for the heads up on the batting. I'll give it a go!
Stay warm and safe!

I love your scrappy quilt! Is it string pieced? I am wanting to make my brother a quilt, I like this pattern. What size are the blocks? I read about the Cream Rose batting on Tim Quilts blog and got some to use in a hand quilting project. I have not used it for machine quilting yet, but will try it now. I have been copying Jeni's patterns for future use. Yours looks wondeful! I hope it has warmed up.

I am also making Jeni's A Life of Plenty. I've had a late start, so I am really enjoying seeing your progress and will be evaluating the changes you are making.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
