Hi everyone! Well, the scraps are just so much fun, aren't they? I put all the blocks together, and then put this narrow border of red. I am liking it!! THANK YOU!! so much to everyone who gave an opinion last post about what to do with this scrappy top...I listened, and thank you so much for all your input!! I still have to search the stash for a border fabric. I also decided to make this a much smaller quilt, for a baby...mainly because I almost ran out of 2 inch squares. Oh the horror!! Running out of squares!! Hee!! It is not like I could not CUT some, now is it??
I also put the outside borders on our quilt along quilt from Lori and Randy!!! I am loving this...it is to be an applique border....kind of a clean slate. I could applique anything I want!!! I love the border that is designed for this quilt...but the wheels are turning...who knows what could end up here!!
My poor 2 inch box...nearly empty. Well, these squares will definitely breed more, don't worry! I am sure of it...and I feel good about using some up! Some of these squares were my mother's fabrics..they are precious to me...now she was a REAL scrappy quilter!!!! In those days, she did not go to the fabric store...she made do with scraps of dresses, aprons, whatever she could find...and her quilts are the absolute best ever!!
Have a great day, everyone!!

The horror! Out of fabric squares!!! LOL
Scrappy quilts are my favorites.
I love both of your quilts - fun and colorful.
I love the red too, really makes a stunning border.
Can't wait to see what you do with your new quilt.
Debbie
Your scrappy stars are wonderful!
I can't wait to see what you do with that blank slate of a border. : )
I love that narrow red border! It makes the whole quilt sparkle!
I am looking forward to seeing how you applique that border. I love what you have done so far!
Wonderful quilts.
Grit
Lovely quilts Julie but I don't see any other kind here!
Running out of squares is worse then running out of milk!
Both your quilts are lovely!!!
That red border absolutely sets the stars off. Lookin' good girl!
PS Would you like some of my 2" squares?? LOL
The red border is the absolute best choice...your stars just pop! Also love your medallion quilt...awesome!
Ahhh, red is my neutral; I love it! Now maybe a deep maroon border, almost black? Or maybe a medium green on green? Time to audition from the stash! Such fun to visit you.
Great choice for the scrappy stars, it looks fabulous!!! Also love your medallion quilt too, it's coming along beautifully. Just saw Lori's applique border on her blog, and it adds such a nice frame!! I look forward to see what you choose!!!
Will you be showing your options for the next border? This is fun watching it grow!!!
Nearly out of 2" squares ... do we need to announce a state of stash emergency!!!!! Good to see your quilts progressing :)
Oh boy I like the way you added the large border on the outside without having another smaller border to break it up...I'm going to audition that on my medallion too....mind if I steal your idea?
Happy Sewing
Julie, both of those quilts are totally adorable.
What a great story about your mom. I'd love to see some of her quilts. Sounds like you have some to share!! And the red binding is awesome. LOVE IT. Can't wait to see what you do with our little sew-a-long! And if you're short on scraps, I would be happy to send some your way!! :-)
Poor lonely 2" squares. They need friends.
Out of squares? Time to tackle the scrap basket. You'll be full again before you know it. Love the red border! Definitely looks like it all goes together now.
Add water and fertilizer and the scraps will grow.
LOVE the scrappy with red border! Someday someone will be wondering about your quilt! Who was this quilter who loved color so much! Look at all the wonderful scraps! You have left a legacy!
