Total Immersion...

Good Monday to all of you!  I am off work today, and have hit the ground running.  Below is my little Jewel Box top I made last year...and did not like. It has been languishing in the closet, waiting for a chance to be finished. It cried out to me this week!   So, I took the borders off and I am making the quilt twice as big!
The borders came off quickly, using the rotary cutter as a seam ripper...but I had to be really careful not to cut the fabric.
These blocks are four inches finished, so the little four patches use one inch finished pieces. I love this!  I can see so many scraps from so many quilts in this quilt.  Hundreds of different fabrics!
A quilt explosion!!  I am in the process of trimming and binding all these quilts, for patient quilts.  Rosie the poodle is helping me with this process.  I am so delighted to be making some finishing progress!!
 More plaid string blocks...
More Jewel Box blocks...lots more!!  Four inch finished.  All from the 1.5 and 2.5 inch scraps bins.  By the way, I have been cutting, and cutting, and cutting out quilts...at least four are all cut out now.  That is what I have been working on in insomnia nights!
A beautiful rose from my husband, from Valentine's day...love it dear!  Thank you so much!!  Isn't it pretty??
And this...

You know, when we have a code, it involves using a crash cart.  We run and get the crash cart, and crack the seal...this is the seal.  Seems like this little piece gets thrown to the floor in all the trauma of the code...and usually I end up picking them up for some reason.  Such a little piece of plastic, but so symbolic of a person's life...or death.  This code was successful!!  Hurrah!!

A lady's daughter came screeching out of a patient room, yelling, "This is an emergency!"  I went tearing down there, ready to code the patient or whatever...and the patient said..."well, I may have to use the bedpan."  Sigh...after a week of drama....sigh!!

Hope each of you has a great day today!

Julie

Boy, where to start? LOVE the jewel box! Can't believe you are doubling the size (I often use my rotary cutter to rip seams!).
Wow, you have some lucky patients! How do you determine who gets quilts?
Four quilts cut out? I am lucky if I get one all the way cut before starting on it.
That is a gorgeous rose. Very sweet.
Who screams an emergency when someone "may" have to use a bedpan? ): (

LOVE your jewel box quilt! Gads you are ambitious to make it bigger!

OK, loved your "emergency" story. My sister has been a nurse 20+ years. My brother was a cop about 20 years (retired) and his wife is a nurse. My late husband was a cop over 30 years, and I was a former corrections officer in a jail. The stories we could tell when we would all get together! Your face would hurt from laughing. I'm sure you know how that goes.

Love your scrap quilts, are your bins empty yet? Such a great pattern, I couldnt "see" the block until you showed us, but very effective.

Oh Julie your quilts are gorgeous---and HOW DO you decide who to give your quilts to??? To be in such a 'sick' ward, those are some lucky patients---to have you as their nurse AND receive quilts. You are truly an angel, girl. :) Love your Jewel Box WIP and those plaids grab me every time. :) Thank you so much for the sweet birthday card---such a lovely lovely surprise. Hugs to you, sweetie.

Your quilt patients must feel very special and blessed when you give them a quilt.

Hey, a bedpan IS an emergency in my book. When you've got to go, you've got to GO. ;oD

Enjoy your week

The jewel box is beautiful from here :-) Can't wait how you decide to finish it this time.
Great progress on all those gift quilts. They will surely surprise and comfort the receivers. A very personal touch in a stressed environment.
and yes, Emergency has taken on a whole new meaning at times. I just have to try and keep a smile on my face...There really is a difference between cracking that seal and getting someone a bedpan.

Wow, those are small and bright jewels that get to grow :) So pretty. Lots of cutting and sewing going on at your place. Hope you get more sleep, though!

"Emergency" is apparently relative, lol!

Funny how us nurses have a different definition of "emergency" isn't it?
Too funny!
Looks like you are getting in plenty of quality quilting.

Happy Sewing

you've been busy getting all those quilts up to binding stage! i think jewel box looks much better without the border. The red wasn't quite right perhaps. At least it was just the toilet this time!

Lots of things going on!

Good morning, or evening to you!!!  I have been sewing pouches of different sizes, and I enjoy filling them with different things and giftin...
