Crumby progress!

Well, how did that happen?  This picture is super sized!  Anyway, I am making some progress on the crumby quilt.  I am at a total loss for borders...this will a hospital bed/patient quilt sized quilt.  I did not make much of a dent in the crumb pile!!  Oh well, I will soldier on!  Do you have an idea for a border?  Help!!
 Another shot...
And since I could not figure out the borders for the first quilt, I worked on this border, for the basket quilt.  It is prettier in person...looks rather dark in the pictures.
Rosie the quilting model is displayed at no extra charge to you!!  She is such a wonderful sweetheart, I am just in love with this little stray darling doggie!!
And...cheesecake!  A little brownish...and cracked!  I will have to have another go at this one...but it will taste good, at least I hope so!  I used low fat cheese and splenda instead of sugar, so maybe that is why it cracked.  It seems wonderful on the inside...will try again!!

Have a great day, all!!

Julie

It is just darling. It's amazing how such beauty can come from waste pieces.

Julie, both quilts are lovely! I don't have any suggestions for a border. Does it need one just to be larger? The design looks "done" to me.

Your cheese cake looks delish! That color makes me think of a wonderful carmel-y flavor!

What about making more of the crumb flying geese and lining them up side by side ( so the geese aren't flying just standing next to each other) and it will be a saw tooth border?

And you can send me that cheese cake if it doesn't please you...it looks fabulous.

Happy Sewing

Try a water bath next to keep it from cracking, also over backing will cause cracks. I had the same problems with oversized pictures on my blog.

I have no border suggestions for the crumby geese, but I love the name. : )
Beautiful border on the baskets, and I love the quilt model.

Crumby geese quilt is cute...I think you could get away with no border on this one...not sure if that helps! Your little Rosie is just gorgeous....!

Did you let the cheesecake cool in the oven without opening the door (other than a crack) or moving it? That seems to control cracking in my cakes

I think the quilt looks just perfect as it is--no border necessary!

•Make sure you mix the ingredients only as much as it takes to make the batter smooth. Over-mixing incorporates too much air, which makes the cheesecake rise during baking (the way a souffle does), then collapse as it cools.
•As soon as you take the cheesecake out of the oven, run a knife along the edge to prevent it from sticking to the sides of the pan. As cheesecake cools, it contracts, and if the edges remain stuck to the pan, cracks form.
•Don't overbake the cheesecake: take it out of the oven when still a little jiggly the center. Cracks form when the cheesecake gets too dry. But let's say you do get a couple of cracks in your cheesecake‚it is really not a big deal. Unless it is very overbaked, your cheesecake will taste just as good. And no one need see those cracks: top your cheesecake with berries, chocolate shavings or whipped cream. It will look beautiful and taste just as delicious.

Hi!
Your quilts look great! What about an inner border of the cream fabric and then 4, or even 9 patches for your border? Simple, but will put a nice dent in your scraps!
Cheesecake, MMMMMM.....
Take care, Leslie

As far as the cheesecake - I "do" cheesecake...LOL

Happy Tuesday.

Here's a border idea - you could use some more of the narrow strips (like the sashings) except staggered and stacked all around the quilt, kind of like a brick wall but long and skinny bricks. :-)

Your basket quilt is amazing. The piano key border is wonderful and the little baskets in the corners are the perfect finishing touch. You always impress me with your creativity. Keep up the good work!!

I adore the border you added to the basket quilt. Maybe the flying geese is needing something plain?

Oh Julie, girl, I am in LOVE with that basket quilt---just gorgeous! And you have made splendid progress with your crumbly quilt. I like Kim's (4th comment down) idea for a border. :)

I like the super sized pic. get to see all the details! No suggestions for border maybe, something simple? wsa going to use our crumby FGs for my quilt but went on retreat and lost my foundation fabric so went another way. will definitely be using it though. I have a ton of little bits in a container

Nice work on both quilts! You use your time so productively!

OMGosh, I MUST stop thinking about cheesecake!!!!

Border - my very first thought was another proportion of the light muslin and then another border of those chunks of ?? 2 inch width? It's obviously a scrap quilt so use more of your scraps! Someone will LOVE it! - I sure do.

I luv both the quilts!
I think the border should be plain cream, smallish and bind it with scraps!'_'

Love them both, Julie!

Lots of work in them there geese and your basket quilt is simply divine. And Rosie can come to live at our house any time. What a sweetie.

What about a thin neutral border to match your geese backgrounds and then a scrappy piano key border all round

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
