May I ask your opinion?

HI everyone!!  Hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday!!  May I ask your opinion?  Is the above setting too dramatic for my Barrister's blocks?  Is the contrast too much, with the black?  Thank you so much for your two cents, LOL!!  The nine patches are 2 inch finished...and I love them, for their tiny size, and just because I love nine patches!!  I really am enjoying making these blocks...want to do it too??  Click HERE!!  She posts new blocks every two weeks...it is fun!!  If I decide to continue making these setting pieces, I will have to get black fabric, and also muslin...I am all out of both.
And...I finished the big stitch quilting on the turtle quilt!  I save hand quilting for road trips, that seems to be a good use of my time...do you do this??

****************************Nurse's notes*************************

I am off work for a couple days, then back at it...I wonder and worry about the patients at work, and hope they are doing OK.  I know other nurse's do this too...and then I go back to work, and a whole 'nother group of patients are there, with their stories and illnesses and triumphs.  Nursing is a good thing!  But you can take the charting and politics and get rid of those things down the nearest oubliette!!

Hope you have a great day, all!!

Julie

Yes and no. When it is ours we tend to overthink it, and with that, yea it is too much. But if it were mine would you over stare the one block? No, you would love it and I would love you back. So, no, it is perfect.

P.S. I love reading your blog, you are so normal. Too busy, have a real job, a real life outside, and like the rest of us, love our life such as it is. We would be friends. :-)

I love the drama! Gives each block room to breathe and barristers in the UK wear black and white so most appropriate colour choice!

The black 9-patches are perfect to let the blocks shine individually. I don't like large sashings that seem to compete with the quilt blocks themselves, but that is a great size. You go, girl!

I love it.

I like the design, but I would probably put some darker fabrics in some of the blocks so that the contrast is not as stark...so that the black don't draw your eye to the sashing, instead of to the blocks. Does that make any sense?!?
I love your turtle quilt...can you show us close up shots of how you quilted it?!?

I think you've made the perfect setting choice for your blocks. I love the little nine patches and the black and white really makes the block colours pop. It's going to be a fabulous quilt when you finish it.

I love it, but I would be aware of adding some black into some of the blocks, that will prevent the sashing from over powering the whole piece. ps. Love the comment from tspoon, I ditto her p.s.

I just finished using this setting on a string quilt (thanks to your blog header), and love how it adds pizzazz to the whole quilt without letting the sashing become overpowering. I think this is a perfect setting for your little blocks.

Is the black too stark? I thought so at first glance, but after looking at it more carefully, I think it might work after all. Strange how black actually makes colours brighter, isn't it? It adds flair, so go for it.

I think the black sets the blocks off beautifully! You make the most beautiful quilts! :0)

I think the tiny bits of black look great!

Nursing is a hard business for all the reasons you say--and your heart is always in the right place!

Oh...I love this setting and you may have just helped me figure out how to set mine! I've been wondering what I was going to use for sashing - mine are all red/black/tan. Love yours!

I think it looks fabulous!

The black looks great to me. You could use any darker fabric, though and get about the same effect. It's the value that is important rather than the color, but I do love the black here!

I think the black is so fun. It adds a little something extra. Good idea.

I love the setting for your Barrister Blocks! The black really makes the blocks pop and showcases each block delightfully!

I'm off tonight, work tommorow. I'm rearranging my bedroom, sewing room. Bleh! But it will be worth it in the end. I have to have room to quilt my snails trail up!

I like the setting a lot and don't think it distracts from the lovely blocks.
Such cute turtles!!

My hubby joined the 50 club and the nurses made it not such a bad procedure! We love good nurses.

I think the black makes the rest of the blocks pop!

The turtle quilt is adorable. I wish I could do hand sewing in the car but I get too car sick.

I love everything about that setting...the black looks great...a standout! I always admire how you put together the quilts with outstanding settings...and you sound like a very sweet, caring nurse...we've had our share of good and not so great nurses this past year...3 hospital stays in less than 30 days for my husband...he's ok though!!!

Hi!
Consensus says we love the black and white and the setting you have chosen!
I think the black and white bring universality to the quilt, given you have different blocks! It also gives a place for the eye to sit and rest and look at the individual blocks!
Lookin' Good!
Take care, Leslie

I love the nine patches and I love the added black strip in the sashing. Very nice!

I love this style of sashing. I think it outlines each block and accents the colors without screaming for attention. The little corner 9-patches give consistency to the quilt and tie together all of the different designs with a common element.

I love the setting with the darling teeny 9P!! The turtles look great all quilted up! I love to use car time to be productive.

This sashing and the little nine patches really brings these blocks together. Great idea! You are inspiring :-)

Simple blocks and so cute. I'd put them together block to block as is.

If you are worried about the strong contrast, maybe audition the same sashings but made with a mid-dark blue and muslin. Most commenters seem to think it's great as it is though! Only you can make the final decision :)

I wonder what happened to the turtle quilt I made. It was a long time ago and I don't have the quilt. Just made me remember about that when I saw yours.

I love it!

The turtle quilt turned out very nicely, love the big stitching, so approprite for this design!
I actually don't mind the sharp contrast with your barrister blocks, you could soften it with a very dark brown or rather dark grey, but in the end you have to be happy with the result! Either way I'm sure this quilt top will look wonderful!!!

I'm a bit late with the comment as we've been on holiday but I think the sashing is absolutely perfect
