Orca Bay top is finished!! Applique wall quilt top finished!

Donna, you were right! The borders do fit perfectly...and today was the day I took a deep breath, pinned the borders in place and went for it! Whoohoo...I am so glad this is all in one piece! Thank you, Bonnie, for a really fun mystery. I will never, ever again use paper to piece strings...I just do not have the patience to pick it all out...I am afraid there will be little pieces of paper in amongst the batting...sorry all you quilt police! I love the weight visually and physically of the pieced border...love that part the very best, and the movement of the pieces.

If you ever have wanted to try wool applique? This is a very forgiving and fun quilt by Jo Morton...I so enjoyed hand blanket stitching the flowers. And the plaid...of course, I love that! Used what I had on hand...and don't have a piece left for binding! I will have to improvise...

Speaking of wool...I have a shoebox full. That is a lot, truly, although some people have tons more...that amount is all I will need for sure. I used very little in the quilt above, and have this bundle I bought at a quilt show last year. I want someone to have this bundle! Please leave a comment on this post and I will put you in the pot to win this bundle...and send the bundle out on Friday. Good luck to all!!

Have a super great day!

Julie

I have worked very little with wool but really love the feel of it. I would love to win it.

I want to work with wool for quite a while. Maybe I will if I win.

The red plaid is just the ticket for this charming top!!

Holy sheep! I would love to win this cute wool bundle.I haven't tried using wool, but would like too.My husband gave up a cashmere jacket he no longer wants, I have saved it to felt and try something one day.
Your Orca Bay does look fabulous, I thought the border was the best part too. So are you saying you prefer fabric foundations for your string blocks?

Your Orca Bay is beautiful - I am kicking myself that I didn't start this now. I followed along with the yahoo group and printed all the clues but just didn't get round to it. I have done 2 of Bonnies mysteries before and they are so lovely - 1 is completely done and the other is resting at border stage - might get to that this year :-) I would love to be in with the chance of the woolly giveaway.. I have never used it although I have 3 fat eighths I bought last year to make an Autumn table topper - maybe this year for that too - lol xx

Your Orca Bay is absolutely STUNNING. I love the red. Your wools are pretty, too, but please don't put my name into the drawing... I am still cleaning out and there are many people who would love to win it before I finish my BIG project. Nothing's coming in until the clean-out's complete. You are so kind and thoughtful, Julie.

Both look wonderful Julie! Great job.

Wow! Two finishes! Congrats. I have been looking a some wool applique projects, just something simple to give it a try. Thinking this is the year to try my hand at wool. Would love a chance to win the bundle.

They are both gorgeous, Julie! I especially love the appliqued wall quilt, have had that one dogeared for ages to do :p, and I really like the pieced border on the Orca Bay. Great job, girly! :D

You are an amazing machine!! Your Orca bay quilt is wonderful and when I did the mystery quilt of Bonnie's last year, I couldn't belive how perfect the border went on!! Isn't that great!??!
Love your wool applique quilt! I can't beleive you think you'll have enough....I'd love to take it off your hands. We can't have you having *too* much wool now can we? I need at least 3 bags full!!

Janet O. said...

Your Orca Bay is just as stunning as those with red strings! Gorgeous!
Your wool quilt is very cute. Blanket stitching is one type of handwork I do enjoy, but don't include me in the drawing. For some years now wool makes me itch badly.

I'm with you. Piecing on paper is ok until you have to remove said paper. What a mess. Your Orca Bay project turned out beautiful, despite added paper bits, and your applique project is a so very nice. Love the wool you are giving away so hope it comes to my house.

Libby said...

Love your new top - a great mystery for sure (though I am too chicken to join in *s*) Isn't wool applique just the best?

Way to sew! I love your Orca Bay! I need to get back to mine, I am slow. ;-) And the red plaid so complements the flower top. Very cute! I would love to win your wool bundle! I am planning to do the raspberry rabbits bom and I need a lot of colors I don't have~ your bundle would be perfect! Thanks so much for the chance! Have a happy day!

What a generous give away for someone who does this type of work. Please don't include me, I have too much of everything and wouldn't put it to good use.
Do you any any of the corner post fabric left over? That would make a fun binding. Love the pieced border on the mystery quilt, that's a lot of work. I've just started the Carolina xmas one she did in 2009.

Holy cow, Julie....your Orca Bay is fabulous! And that wool sampler is so sweet! Love it!

I have a tough time with pulling out the papers, too.....they get so static-y, and they stick to everything! I spend more time trying to get them to actually go into the trash than it takes to pull them off the fabric! lol Very frustrating.....but it could be my climate! :o)

What a sweet little bundle of wool....I'd love to win it....I'm hoping to try a little wool quilt this year! I've seen so much woolly fun out there lately.....I want to get in on that fun! lol

Wow! your Orca Bay quilt top looks pretty amazing, in fact absolutely amazing and the border is just so right too!!! I agree the only thing about Foundation paper piecing I loathe is taking out the paper LOL!!!!
I haven't worked with wool at all, but the opportunity to give it a go would be great! Thanks for the chance to win the little bundle!!

Terry said...

Your Orca Bay is beautiful! I'll bet it feels good to have it to this stage already! My blocks are all done, and the papers are removed - I didn't like that part either, and it made a huge mess on the floor. I'm hoping to get the blocks together this weekend. Great job!

I just tried working with wool for the first time and really enjoyed it. I would love to win this as I don't have any wool of my own...I used my friends scraps. :)

Carol said...

Stunning Orca Bay! You deserve great big Kudos for sticking with that one.....so many pieces and seams. Know you are proud of it. Am wanting to make a wool pincushion with a pattern from Painted Quilt. Have never done one but there has to be a first!

AnnieO said...

Gratulations on two wonderful finishes! The paper pieced strings also stop me from these mysteries--the paper removing process just puts me off.

The wools are so pretty! I've done just a bit of wool work and agree it is forgiving.

Jan said...

Love your Orca bay quilt!! Your wool applique is so nice. I have done several small things with wool and like it.

First of all...congratulation on finishing the Orca Bay! It's awesome! Second...I love wool and would love to win that yummy little bundle. :)

Love your quilts - was in the process of doing some hand stuff when Bonnie's mystery started so printed off the instructions and put some fabric together for it, but that's as far as it got. Was just at a local quilt shop and picked up 2 bags of Jo Morton scraps - cheap. Wish I had picked up a couple more they were 2 inch strips. Think I would enjoy wool, but just have not started it. Really don't need to start a new hobby. Hope you are staying warm - it's -2 degree right now in northern Iowa -- Robert.

SueB said...

WOW, I love both of your quilts. Please put me in for winning the wool. I have Jo's book and would love to try it in wool. Cant wait to see how you quilt the appliqued flowers with the wool.
