A four bobbin day!!

I actually sewed a lot yesterday! I usually just sew in the mornings, and then work on the house, etc in the afternoons on my days off from work, but yesterday....was different! I sewed and sewed and sewed! I finished putting together one of my oldest UFO's...this quilt! OK folks...I found out that working with really long, big blocks is hard! Hard to make all the seams match...I actually had to PIN something! Horrors!! Just joshing...I got it together and am so glad to have an empty project box, yahoo! The pink border is the width it is because that is all the fabric I had left. The problem with letting a project go this long is that the original fabrics for the project have disappeared or gotten used up...so the pink is different, and also the setting white is different. Oh well!!
And the final border is on, on the plaid string quilt along!!! I just love it....hey, does anyone know why when I cut the border plaid on grain, carefully...the plaids are crooked? I think this is a woven plaid, so it ought to follow the grain...this same fabric did the same thing in my first string plaid quilt too. Oh well...I like it so much anyway!!

Thank you all for joining me and encouraging me in this, my first quilt along...hope you all have fun with your strings!!!

Have a super day!

Julie

Wow, Julie, you scored big time! Two wonderful scrap quilt tops done and I absolutely love them both!! I think the triple sashing with the 9-patch cornerstones is such a beautiful way to set blocks. Takes a little more time, but so worth it! Great job!!

Love the Dresden plates - the setting is just perfect.

Four bobbins is a lot of stitching! Do you have any idea how many different plaids you may have used in your quilt?

You have been busy! I love both of these quilts and the way you've sashed them. Very nice.

Two great finishes for you, yippie! I love both of them. As for the variety of backgrounds, so what, it's a scrappy quilt anyways. Isn't it great when you have time to work through a project?

Love that triple sashing on both--solid and plaid, it gives a wonderful look. Will have to remember that....

Glad you ignored the dust for a day and sewed for your heart's content!

That D.P. is gorgeous...and who cares if the whites and pinks are different...that is what quilts are for...using up fabric.

Two really great finishes, great job!

When dealing with directional fabrics the way to check if it is printed/woven "on grain" is to take a snip at the selvege edge and tear it aross. The fabric will rip along the woven grain and then you will see first hand if the print lines up with that and can adjust your cutting accordingly.

Sometimes the "problem" is that when we even the edge of the fabric by checking how it "hangs", it may not hang as precisely on grain as it seems.

Julie, if I understand your question about the plaid, my guess is that it isn't always printed on straight of grain. My SIL who sews with lots of decorator fabric complains about this often. Congrats on another finish!

You have really done a great job of getting these two quilts to this stage in such a short space of time. Are you sure there aren't some little quilting fairies in your sewing room?LOL If they have nothing to do now, will you please send them around to my house LOL!
