Scraps rule...don't 'ya think??

OK, I got the latest scrappy quilt all in one piece...I can always see that I should have placed this block here, or that block there, but all in all, I like to just let the blocks fall where they may and surprise someone, someday! So, here is the state of the union...I am working on a pieced border, and the border is quite opinionated about what it wants to become! I am merely a worker here...it is really out of my hands, when the quilt decides to speak up and say what it wants!!

I had some thoughts...you know, when I first started out quilting, I wanted to make every tough, tough pattern there was. Intricate applique, Mariner's compass quilts (no paper piecing either!)...I was doing it. I kind of fell into scrap quilting, as a results of pieces left over from trying to make masterpieces. I exhibited in several shows, and won some ribbons, and that was fun, but my heart and soul was in the simple quilts that my mother and grandmother had made and our family had used. I feel that it would be hard to be a scrap quilter when I was first starting out...a person just doesn't have as many scraps! Anyway, I am so happy to be where I am now, scrapping away and really enjoying it.

More tomorrow! Two days off in a row...woohoo!!!

********************The Hyperthyroid patient*************************

I have slept all night, two nights in a row. My thyroid TSH is high normal...I think I am swinging to hypothyroid now. I am gulping up sleep in great gulps, drinking in the rest at last...thanks be to God that I am sleeping!! I sure hope it continues!!

The down side? NO more insomnia quilting!! Hee!!!

*********************************************************

Have a great day, everyone!

Julie

I love your attitude toward quilting. It certainly results in beautiful quilts! I love the scrap utility quilts I grew up with. To this day, when I go home, I have to sleep under one quilt in particular. My little 92 year old mama and I trace over the scraps with our fingers and talk about whose dress or shirt it came from.

Absolutely, scrap quilts rule! Since I'm kind of new to blogging I didn't know you have thyroid issues. My sister has had the hyper/hypo problem. My mother had to have hers killed, but so far it hasn't hit me--I'm just waiting. Glad you are finally getting some sleep, but that does put a damper on uninterrupted quilting time!

So glad to hear you are resting better and onto feeling better.
I love your new scrappy quilt. Can't wait to see the border.
I still have bit into straight scrappiness yet but I am making some good headway into making quilts with what I have in my stash. I do agree that scraps rule though!

Sleep does have its drawbacks, but I am so happy for you that you are getting at least a turn at it.

The quilt is wonderful, as usual. Can't wait to see the border.

I think that we have to try lots of things before we find our niche. Your quilts are always so pretty. You have a way of making those scrappy pieces sing.
Good news about the sleeping.

Sleep rules! When I started the tamoxifen and I couldn't sleep, NOTHING was right in the world for me. I'm so glad you are getting back on track. Yeah to scrap quilts, the story of our lives!

What a great scrappy pattern. I am always on the look out for more ways to use the 4 patch leaders and enders that keep accumulating and replicating in the dark of night.

Scrappy and bossy, is it? Well, you are a good worker, lol! It looks wonderful.

Glad you are getting some rest, even if it cuts into insomnia sewing :)

Scrappy's rule! But you are right, you need to make non scrappy quilts first so we have scraps.

Scrappy is my fav because I like the variety of fabrics - less chance of boredom to sink in like when the same 3,4,or 5 are being used over and over. Takes longer to cut out but I do it in spurts anyway.

Enjoy your rest! It is so important to keep sharp.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
