HI Y'all...Pretty big title there, huh?? I had every intention of making this quilt a little smaller, but as I put patches together...bigger was better. These are 6 inch nine patches, exchanged last year to celebrate getting my CCRN certification, as you may recall. Betsy Chutchian made the original quilt, inspired by her great great grandmother's quilts....her quilt had no borders, and so mine won't either. This one will be quilted with baptist fans quilted in pearl cotton, as soon as I can figure out how to mark them...is there such a thing as white wash-out marker? I was thinking of using slivers of soap...pretty old fashioned, huh?
I want you to know...these nine patches mean so very much to me. Thank you to everyone who exchanged with me...these are very special.

Gorgeous! I have a white mechanical pen from Bolin that works pretty well. But soap is so easy and cheep :-) I still like it when I don't need too much precision.

A beautiful quilt, Julie. And great without borders. I'm not a fan of borders. I never seem to be able to cut them without some kind of wow in them. So I don't put borders on my quilts. The nine-patch is one of my most favourite blocks, especially for scrappy quilts such as yours.

Clover makes a "White Marking Pen (Fine)" that stays on until you iron it or wash it. Touch the iron to it and it disappears! I've used it a lot and love it. It's a liquid that goes on invisible and as it dries it becomes white. It makes a nice fine line, and because it's a liquid, it's like writing with a ball-point pen, really smooth and easy. I get mine at Joann's.
Love how this turned out. I have a silver prisma pencil that I mark with, it just seems to wear off as you go along. You can't mark the whole top because of that, but I like it. LOVE how this turned out and your quilting choice is fab!
Julie, I love the way these two blocks work together! One of my future quilts will be the one with the "x" in it, I had saved a picture of one for future reference.

I use the Clover White Marking Pen (fine). It comes out really easy with just heat from the iron. It's also suppose to come out easily with water. But lasts as long as you need it to while quilting. And that's a long time for my hand quilting.

A few people have commented on Clover white marking pen, I use this too and find it great.I use a empty roll on deodorant bottle filled with water and just roll over marks to remove. Another is a Sewline mechanical lead pencil.

you did the same thing I did made the quilt the way you wanted to, this is not Betsy pattern in the book! I had to make a disclaimer on my blog as you would not find this quilt pattern in her book!
