Saturday, and I am at home!

Hi friends! Unexpectedly, I am off today! I worked Friday, and work Sunday, but they said I could have off today from the hospital, due to a low census day. Yippee!! Are you about getting tired of seeing the plaid quilt above? Just an update anyway...all the blocks are done, and I am in the process of putting them together. I have the four rows above together. Brighter than I thought it would be!

I also made a couple more bags. The black, red and white one is for Pam, my friend, as this is her favorite color combo. The other one is for...I have no idea! This makes 3 bags in a week. Hmmmm...

Nurses use a lot of medicines with flip top lids. Each brand/maker puts a different color on their particular drug. I have saved a few...actually I have a ton! Why? What in the world can I do with these little pieces of color? Any suggestion is worthy...and would be so appreciated.

I was lucky this week! I won a giveaway from the Texan! Very nice lady, and very nice blog. She is cleaning out her sewing goodies a little bit and I received some of her books. Thank you Texan!!

*********************Nursing Notes**********************************

We have three cases of a pretty rare disease happening in our unit. Out of 20 beds, it is kind of strange to me. The disease is Wegener's granulomatosis. An odd disease for a cardiac intensive care unit. Strange that a 19 year old girl, a 45 year old lady and a 72 year old man each presented with different symptoms and came out with the same diagnosis. Sadly, the prognosis is very bad for the two younger ones, but the older gentleman is making great progress. I am remembering all three in my heart, here at home today.

*********************************************************************************

Have a super day!!!

Julie

Interesting cases. I admire you for being a nurse. It must be heartbreaking at times.

We will never get sick of seeing these plaid blocks!
I have no suggestions about what to do with your collection...I'm sure a sculpture artist could make something interesting!

NOT tired of seeing that plaid quilt - LOVE it!

No idea of those lids, but yes, it seems something could be made of them ...

Wegeners? we have an almost senior citizen in our church with that rare condition.

Never get tired of seeing your progress on the plaid quilt....nice to have an unexpected day at home...bonus! Perhaps the little colour tops could be attached to round cork mats to make a series of big "dots" covered with little "dots".....you could cover the mats with fabric before attaching the tops or leave them plain......!Just a thought....

I love that plaid quilt. As for the lids, GOOD LUCK (and let us know if you find a good project in which you can use them!) So sad about the rare disease and the poor prognosis for 2 of the 3 with it in your unit.

The plaid quilt is coming along very nicely...what finished size are you aiming for?

Bet you did enjoy the unexpected Saturday off from the hospital.

Have a strong heart as you work with these patients...they are lucky to have you in their corner at this time of life.

Julie,

I just read what Wegener's was all about. What a trip that you'd have three cases at once. Sad. These inflammatory diseases are really a bummer.

I don't think I'd ever get tired of seeing this quilt. I enjoy seeing things as they progress.

...and I love the bags you made. How fun. Also, I noted on your sidebar the quilters that are also nurses. How cool is that?!

So many colored tops....

glue magnets to them for the fridge
glue to push pins
make some fabric checkerboards and use these for checkers

Is there a reason that the young are doing worse and the man is doing very well? Was it the timing of diagnosis?

I am definitely not tired of seeing the plaid blocks!

I, too, love the way the plaid quilt is progressing. I hope you continue posting photos.

Use the lids for checkers or poker chips, turn them into buttons, or put them in a huge apothecary-type jar for a colorful display.

The plaid quilt looks great, I love plaids. Cute little bags and makes a wonderful gift. No ideas for the lids but they look nice in the bowl.

I lvoe the plaids! Why not make a mosaic with the caps?

Hello,
I like so much your plaid blocks, they will make a nice quilt.

What ever will you do with all those pretty lids? You are indeed a scrapper! LOL! Love your plaid beauty! It is coming along. I love the brightness of it!

I can't believe you save those little vial tops--though I admit, they are colorful. I did like the mosaic idea someone mentioned.

Somewhere I saw an idea with the actual vials themselves, though I can't remember where...I'll have to look around and see if I saved it.

Nope, not tired of the plaid blocks, nor the bags, either!

That plaid quilt looks great! I love it, can't wait to see it finished! And congrats on winning the giveaway! Looks like some great gifts. Those poor people with that rare disease. Not sure what is it is but I hope things work out!

Hi Julie,*VBS*, here I am, late as usual.
I'm going to echo the others and say we could never see too much of such a great plaid quilt. You are making great progress on it!
I was thinking about your vial caps, and wondered if you couldn't make a fabric checker board from two colors, machine quilt it, so it's really gridded and then select two colors of caps for the red and the black. And maybe make a matching bag with a draw string to store the checkers in. You could add a ribbon on one end of the "board", so it could be rolled up and tied shut.
I think many ages of kids would like that, maybe even some of your patients.
So sorry to hear of the 3 rare cases of that awful disease. Dealing with inflamation is the pits, been there, tried to do that. Happy stitching, Hugs, Finnie

I don´t mind seeing more of the plaid quilt. It looks just wonderful and bright. As you, I would not have expected it from just plaids. But then it is probably because all my plaids are kind of dull!
You must watch out with wool! Once it starts jumping in your cart, you can´t stop them! Guess how I know.
But the scraf does look gorgeous.
Take care

Hi there!
I would like to burn a theme at this forum. There is such a thing, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of ponzy-like structure, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.

For several years , I earn money with the help of these programs.
I'm with no money problems now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I make 2G daily, and my first investment was 500 dollars only.
Right now, I managed to catch a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Turn to my blog to get additional info.
