more on the log cabin quilt

Hi everyone!

I am looking forward do completing part two of Bonnies' mystery quilt! The first part was fun and fast and I made a glorious mess of strips. How many are doing this mystery quilt, does anyone know?

I put borders on the log cabin quilt. And I just can't stand it at all. So in the spirit of going forward, I put the green vines on two corners... So the name of the quilt is "Vines on my Log Cabin". But I am trying to bust stash, and the biggest piece of fabric I had was the brown, and someone mentioned to put a darker border as to not stand out, and so I did. Is it so terrible??? Would love opinions, please.

It is going to be in a real log cabin some day, so maybe it is OK.

Hope everyone is having a great and wonderful Wednesday!!Back to work with me tomarrow...

I really like the brown, I think it makes the colors on the inside pop more.
the vines are perfect to add color to the border too.
when you quilt this I bet you will love the border .
I really do.

The vines are lovely but I agree, the brown is not. It just reads so FLAT with no zip to it. And I cannot see the lovely vine.

It's hard to tell when it's time to change direction, and it MIGHT be OK when quilted, but maybe you should trust your instincts and think some more -- BTW - thanks for the comment about MY crummy border idea! LOL

Hey we can't be wonderful ALL the time!

I'm visiting via Elaine's blog.

What about doing 2 log cabin rows in neutral shades several shades lighter than your center ones. That way you'd mimick the center yet give you continuity. Then the vines would be more easily seen.

It's lovely btw! I'm very slowly doing a log cabin as well, it's
"Relatively Neutral".

I quite like it actually. I think it's good to have a darker border, as it makes the eye travel to the centre, which is where all the hard work is! I think the vines are nice too. Maybe you could add a thin border between the quilt and the brown, but really I like it how it is.

Well written article.

Puffins and purples!!

I was tempted by Puffins...a squirrelly breed!!  LOL!  This fabric was shared with me, and I have been loved these bright, candy corn colors...
