Green Storage...

Good Monday to all of you quilters out there! First, I want to say a big thank you to my friend Lyn at http://www.bluebirdquilts-lyn.blogspot.com/. She sent me the most wonderful package, all the way from Australia! The tin is full of lovely reproduction fabrics to go in my Sylvia's Bridal Sampler quilt. They are so pretty! Next, some really pretty buttons, so cute. She then MADE a block for the SBS quilt! A hexagon block, that I will applique to my background, so it all matches. It is lovely! And the scraps from the quilt Lyn made for my son, after I had oohhed and Ahhed over it, she sent all the rest she had. Wow! Thank you so much, Lyn!!

My friend Finn at http://www.finnleah.blogspot.com/ intrigued me with her recent post about how quilters store and sort scraps. At the hospital where I work, all kinds of packaging is thrown out from sterile containers. The above bins are some that are just tossed. I scrounge them right out and bring them home, and use to sort out my projects. The largest ones are able to hold a book or pattern, and fabrics, templates, thread, and whatever you need to finish the project. I love this! The bins are quite sturdy and sterile until opened after all, I just think it is such a shame to throw them out. The blue and small white ones are perfect for units cut out for specific quilts. I have scads of these!

My project, the SBS quilt is all contained in one container. Marked on the side, I can slide it onto a shelf and find it quickly and all the "stuff" is right there!!

Slowly, the blocks are multiplying for Sylvia's Bridal Sampler. Hopefully I can finish this in my lifetime! Really, if I did a block a day, it would go quite quickly.

Nursing update!

Remember the hypothermia man? The one who I call "Mr Freeze", who was a cardiac arrest victim who was put into "deep freeze"? He is off the ventilator, and the minute we took out the breathing tube, he asked, "Say, Miss, can I have a diet coke?" A man after my own heart! He is doing very well and getting stronger each day, walking slowly and rehab is pending for him. Yahoo!!! I am so glad for him and his precious wife too.

Gratitude's:

Fajitas! Yum!

The book 90 minutes, about a person who was clinically dead, then came back to earth...very intriguing book!

Clean sheets each Monday! They feel sooo good!

Have a super day,

Julie

I like those trays you are using. And saving stuff from going to the trash heap.
Your package of fabrics looks very interesting and it was very nicely packaged, too.

So happy that Mr Freeze is doing well. I loved the book 90 minutes in Heaven and passed it on to my daughter who is a hospice nurse. And like you I put on clean sheets every Monday....

Julie, Julie, Julie!!! Love those fabrics. What a treat. I'm starting to get really excited about this SBS quilt. The thing that truly thrills me is the knowing that you'll really complete it and we'll get to see it. You're what I like to call "A Finisher!"

Also, very cool to hear how well the Ice-Man is doing. I appreciated you sharing this new protocol. Fascinating how medicine evolves and I bet you could write a book on that!

So nice to hear about Mr. Freeze--don't you just love the success stories?

We don't seem to have as many usable disposables at our hospital as you do, but there are some I've been thinking about how to use. You've given me some good ideas!

Great news about your recovering pt. It really puts the wind back in your sails to see patients doing well.We had a woman come back and visit our ED after recovering from a horrible viral encephalitis. What an amazing gift to see her smiling and healthy! I just read "90 minutes in Heaven" a couple of months ago. I loved it and learned alot reading it. It really made me think.
Have fun with the SBS, it is looking beautiful.

What a great package of fabrics. They look really lovely. The containers are interesting, will have to ask my cousin (RN) to look around the hospital for some of those for me!

My Mom used to bring home scads of different bins and such from the hospital too. She still keeps her crochet hooks in a syringe container!

Hugs to you, sweet Texan friend!
