Here is the whole quilt. The block maker sure used some cute fabrics! I love it!!
Now for the old. The above and below pictures are pictures of an e-bay rescue...I call it that because this quilt is falling apart. The appliques are still strong, but the fabric is very frazzled on all the edges. I think it is from the 1930's? Please, anyone have a guesstimation of the age of this quilt? The sashing looks to be all muslin, but on close inspection, it is actually pink and green print fabrics. Faded to nothing. The back is turned to the front and hand-stitched down to form the binding, and the quilt is hand-quilted. The cotton is bunched up inside the quilt terribly...Just a mess of lumps and bumps!! One lady friend wants this quilt to cut up and frame the pieces of applique... I just cringe at cutting up someone's pride and joy and hard work.
I also have another Sunbonnet cut out and ready to hand applique...I can't find it! At the bottom of a basket I am sure...
NOW, it is your turn! Do you have a Sunbonnet Sue that you will share? It would be such fun to see some other ones!!!
Have a great day!!

What is it about Piano Key boarders that I just love!?!?! they just add so much to quilts... Darling project...
I recently saw a sunbonnet zoo. (I think in a magazine in the "readers" area)
It was clever, all of the animals were dressed as sue - (Not like the sunbonnet cat - where the cat appears to be walking on her hind legs)
A sue was on the back with the lable.
I absolutely love the fabrics you used for the sashing and the SKILLFUL way you combined them. WOW! You're really good. I would need help to attemp that.
Impressive Love, *karendianne.
I try and remember to post a couple of old ones I have at the house. I wanted to comment on the applique. The straight stitch right around the edge is very similar to applique my grandmother did on a dresden plate in 1950. I wonder if that form of applique was popular then?
Love your SBS collection! I'm pretty sure I have some SBS blocks somewhere.....
Love your Sunbonnet Sue! I pulled my Sunbonnet Sue quilt out of the closet of "summer weight" quilts. Visit my blog to see it!
Hello Julie, please, please don't cut up the Sun Bonnet Sue quilt, it would be such a shame. I have a Sun Bonnet Sue quilt, that was made for my birthday, by my quilting group friends in Melbourne.Warmest Regards Lyn
I don't have a Sunbonnet Sue, old or new. I do love her though, & have promised myself that one day...
Good luck with yours.
Lovely quilts.
I've never made a Sunbonnet Sue. I'll have to rectify that soon.
Love and hugs Gina xxx
Uh-oh - now I'm going to have to make a Sunbonnet Sue. I've always loved them. Isn't it funny how we feel about quilts - rescuing them - not wanting to cut them up. I agree with you - someone made that with love in mind - it should be kept intact.
I was visiting http://www.alattequilts.blogspot.com/ and read where you had requested we show you our Sun Bonnet Sues... so I did! What a fun show and tell - I can't wait to see everyone elses' and read their stories.
I showed a photo of mine on my blog www.bingobonnie.blogspot.com and added a link to it's story. Please stop by. ;)
Love from Texas! ~bonnie
Such a cute Ssunbonnet Sue quilt. You must get that quilted.
I'd say that the last one is the 30"s I have mine that Mother made me when I was a baby and that was the 30's. Then she made one for my DD and I found some blocks like you did and made each of my granddaughters a Sunbonnet Sue quilt. Mine is in taters but who wouldn't be after76 years,? I might did them out and get pictures.
You have fantastic Sunbonnet Sue quilts - both antique and new! I will have put pull my Sunbonnet Sue quilt out. My Great Grandmother made it in the 30's.
I love what you did with your sunbonnet sue...I did a post today about my story go check it out...
well I have to sunbonnet sues to show you but your look good.........
Came over to your site from, Bluebird Quilts. I admire the work you have put into the Sun Bonnet Sue quilt, Really Lovely
I don't have any sunbonnet sue..... but I wouldn't cut up the old one let her grow old peacefully intact.
Love your SBS I will post one I made last year on my blog ,if you would care to visit http://sewcrazy-hazel.blogspot.com/
My visit to Hazel's blog brought me here! I must say, your SBS is lovely! Very colorful, and love the piano key boarder!
I can't help you with the age of your SBS find there. I have no clue...
Myself, I have only made one SBS block for my sampler...my UFO sampler that is! 8-) Perhaps I will photograph my SBS "block" today and post it for you to see.
happy stitchings!
Oh I'm with you--don't cut up that quilt! It is lovely despite being a little frazzled and lumpy (with any luck someone will still love me when I'm seriously frazzled and lumpy!)
Alas, I have no Sues to share with you. I think yours is going to be a hit though! Nice blog!
In all the quilts I have made, I have never done a Sunbonnet Sue, because I used to hate applique. Now that I am reformed and started to quite enjoy it, it will have to be added to the list. Lovely quilt.
I agree with you about not cutting up the old one. That would just be heresy.
Change of subject - are you still working on the Hearts A Flutter BOM? I would love to see them. I'm still plugging away on mine - usually finish a block the day before the next pattern is posted!
I do not have a Sunbonnet Sue to share, but I truly enjoy looking at yours! You did a lovely job piecing those adorable blocks together.
So much work went into that old one, I would have a hard time cutting into it, too.
